Screens tell small lies about fabric. A colour that looks warm on a phone can turn grey under a north-facing window, and a shade that seems safe in a photograph often reads far stronger once it covers a whole headboard. A Teresso swatch costs a couple of pounds and settles the argument in the only room that matters.

Prop it against the wall where the bed will stand and look at it three times: in morning light, under a bedside lamp, and under whatever your ceiling light does to a room at night. If you are working around existing curtains, carpet or paintwork, hold the swatch up against them rather than judging it on its own — fabric is only ever the right colour in relation to something else.

It is a sensible first step here because a Langham bed is not a stock item you send back if the shade disappoints.
