About the Hampton – Buttoned Surround
Buttoning is what separates this Hampton from a plain frame. The surround is worked with buttons set into the upholstery, drawing the fabric in at regular points so the padding gathers softly between them. In a flat colour it gives the bed texture and shadow where there would otherwise be an unbroken face; in a heavier weave it reads as properly traditional.
The frame itself is broad, standing noticeably wider and longer than the mattress it carries, and the full-height headboard is finished to match the surround. Work to the figures in the specifications rather than to mattress sizes when you are planning where the bed will sit.
Every one is upholstered by hand after you order, in the size, fabric and colour you specify — buttoning included, which is slow work and part of why the bed takes the time it does. Hand-built pieces carry a tolerance of a few millimetres, and it is worth checking doorways and stair turns before the bed goes into production.
