About the Empire
The Empire is a bed built around its headboard — a full-height upholstered panel that rises well above pillow level and gives the room its focal point without needing anything hung above it. Everything below is deliberately quieter, so the proportions carry the piece.
Nothing about an Empire is taken from stock. Once your size, fabric and colour are chosen, the bed is cut and upholstered from scratch by hand, which is why we ask for a few weeks rather than a few days. Handwork also means the odd millimetre of variation, so measure your doorways, stairs and turns before ordering rather than after.
Specified with gas-lift ottoman storage, the Empire is built on our solid ottoman base, made in two halves: a continuous solid surface under the mattress and a stronger, cleaner storage space beneath it. The ottoman version sits fractionally smaller overall, because the base finishes flush with the mattress and the headboard runs down flush to the floor.
