About the Charlie
Charlie keeps things simple — a softly upholstered frame and a headboard at a comfortable reading height, photographed here in baby blue plush velvet. The base follows the mattress closely, so it suits a room where every centimetre of floor is spoken for.
Ordered with gas-lift ottoman storage, Charlie is built on our solid ottoman base, made in two halves. That gives a firm, continuous surface under the mattress and a stronger storage space inside. Chosen as an ottoman, the finished bed sits a little more compactly, the base meeting the mattress without an overhang.
Nothing comes off a shelf. Every Charlie is made from scratch once you have chosen size, fabric and colour — which is also why we ask you to check your stairs, landings and doorways before you order, and to allow slight tolerances in the finished measurements. Handmade beds are never identical to the millimetre.
