About the Dakota
Dakota takes its cue from a boutique hotel suite, where the head of the bed is treated as part of the wall. The headboard runs far wider than the mattress on every size, so it reaches past the bedside tables and gives the whole arrangement a frame. Kept deliberately low, it fills the wall horizontally rather than vertically, which suits rooms with ordinary ceilings and picture rails.
The detail that makes it is the border. A contrasting band of black plush velvet traces the outside edge of the headboard, drawing a clean dark line around the pale upholstery inside it. It is the sort of tailoring that costs time rather than materials, and it is why the bed reads as considered rather than simply large.
Because the headboard is so wide, it is made in three sections that bolt together in the bedroom, so it can be carried through hallways and up stairs in manageable pieces. Each Dakota is upholstered to order in the fabric and colour you choose.
