Wall Panel 03D Dark Oak: what the acoustic claim means
This guide is about
Wall Panel 03D - Dark Oak - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)
Dark oak panelling tends to be chosen for the look and bought for the sound. Wall Panel 03D - Dark Oak - Acoustic is the wavy-profile panel in that finish: four panels to a pack, each 60 x 240 x 1.7cm, listed at 5.76m² of cover. The listing describes HDF slat material on a felt backing, and names offices, studios, bedrooms and commercial rooms as the settings it suits.
Absorption inside a room is not soundproofing between rooms
The felt backing is described as reducing noise and improving room acoustics. That is a statement about what happens inside the room you fit it in: less ring off a hard surface, a flatter sound on a video call, speech that stops bouncing between bare walls. It is not a statement about noise travelling through the wall to whoever is on the other side, and no absorption coefficient, class or test reference is published for this panel.
- If you want a calmer room to work, record or sleep in, this is the right sort of product for the job.
- If you want to stop a neighbour or a television being heard through the wall, say so before ordering. That is a different problem, and the listing says nothing about it.
- If an architect or a specifier has asked you for a figure, ask us to request it from the supplier rather than borrowing a number from a panel that merely looks similar.
The pack, in figures
| Listed as | Figure |
|---|---|
| Panel size | 60 x 240 x 1.7cm per panel |
| Panels per pack | 4 |
| Area covered | 5.76m² per pack |
| Slat width | 2.5cm |
| Space between slats | Not stated |
| Face | Wavy |
| Backing | Felt |
| Named trim | Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic |
| Code | AWS-WP034 |
The size reads as width, height, then thickness, with 240cm matching the height in the product name. Confirm it with us if a tight run depends on it. The slat width is quoted and the gap between slats is not, which means you cannot calculate the slat repeat from the listing, or line a panel edge up with a fixed point in the room on paper. Ask us to measure a panel if your setting out depends on it.
Dark oak beside the wood you already have
Dark oak is the finish name and that is the whole of what the listing commits to. It does not say whether the face is a wood veneer or a printed foil, and it quotes no colour reference. If the wall has to live alongside an existing floor, a door or a worktop, ask for a photograph of the panel in daylight before you commit; dark wood finishes are the ones that most often read warmer or greyer in a room than they do on a screen.
Two practical consequences. A wave is only visible because of shadow, so light from the side does far more for this face than a pendant hanging directly in front of it. And at 1.7cm the panel stands proud of the plaster, which matters at every socket plate, light switch and door architrave on that wall. Measure those before the pack arrives, not after.
If a television or a shelf is going on the panelled wall, plan the bracket into the structure behind it. The listing states no fixing method and no load figure, so nothing here supports hanging weight off the panel itself.
How many packs, and where the cut lands
One pack puts 2.4 metres of wall width in panelling at full height, if nothing is cut.
| Wall width | Full panels | Packs to order |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5m | 2 plus a cut | 1 |
| 2.4m | 4 | 1 |
| 3.3m | 5 plus a cut | 2 |
| 4.8m | 8 | 2 |
| 6.0m | 10 | 3 |
The cut panel is the decision worth making in advance. Working from one corner across leaves a narrow offcut at the far end, and on a slatted face a thin last strip reads as an error. Splitting the shortfall so both end panels are cut equally looks deliberate instead. Where the wall has a chimney breast, a bed or a door, set out from that feature and let the cuts finish in the corners where a trim covers them.
Settle these before you order
- No sound absorption figure is published, so do not promise one to anybody.
- No slat gap figure, so the repeat cannot be planned from the data.
- Nothing is stated about moisture, so do not assume a bathroom or a utility wall. Ask first.
- Edges and external corners need the Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic named in the listing, sold separately. No fixing method is stated, so check with us before buying panel adhesive.
The same wave comes in 03A Oak and 03T Walnut on the same 1.7cm thickness, so two of them meet flush at a corner. For dark oak with a published gap figure, Wall Panel 01D - Dark Oak - Acoustic is 1.5cm thick with 2.5cm slats and a 1.5cm space between them. Its listing does not describe the face, so ask us if that decides it. The rest of the wall is in Slat & Acoustic Panels, and the edge pieces in Trims & Fittings.
Measure the wall at three heights, work from the smallest, then order Wall Panel 03D - Dark Oak - Acoustic - 240cm by the pack. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
