Wentworth Ottoman Divan Bed: Deep Channels and a Base That Lifts Whole
This guide is about
Wentworth Ottoman Divan Bed
Sculpted upholstery and serious storage do not often arrive in the same bed. The Wentworth ottoman divan bed manages both, with broad rounded channels running up the headboard and a base that lifts in one piece to open everything underneath it.
Channels, not fluting
The headboard is wide, softly rounded vertical channels, deliberately fewer and deeper than close-set fluting. The difference is easy to see side by side: fluting gives you fine stripes and a flat overall impression, while channels this deep give a surface with real relief, closer to sculpture than to pattern. On a Super King board the scale of it tells, and it is the reason the Wentworth holds a wall without any other decoration above it.
The board is upholstered in the same cloth as the base and the sides, so the bed arrives as one piece rather than a frame and a board that nearly match. The headboard offered is the 54 inch floor-standing version, carried down to the floor behind the bed rather than hung off the base.
Everything under the mattress is storage
Gas struts take the weight of the mattress and the top swings up from the side, opening the whole footprint of the bed as one lined compartment. No drawers, no runners, and nothing that has to clear a wall or a wardrobe door, so the bed can be pushed into a corner and still open properly.
When people compare divan beds the choice usually comes down to drawers against a lid, and the honest summary is this. Drawers are better for things you want weekly, because you can open one without taking the bedding off. A lid is better for volume, because you get the entire plan of the bed instead of the slices a drawer reaches, and bulky items go in whole. Most households find the bedroom problem is volume.
Before ordering, look up. The lid needs room to swing through, so a sloping ceiling, a low window or a shelf above the bed all need checking. We can tell you how the lid moves on the size you want, which is a better guide than guessing from a picture.
Six sizes
- Small Single 2FT6, 75 cm wide by 196.5 cm long
- Single 3FT, 90 cm wide by 196.5 cm long
- Small Double 4FT, 120 cm wide by 196.5 cm long
- Double 4FT6, 135 cm wide by 196.5 cm long
- King 5FT, 150 cm wide by 205 cm long
- Super King 6FT, 184 cm wide by 205 cm long
These are the finished widths of the bed at its widest point, which is what you measure your room against. Note the jump in length between Double and King: 196.5 cm up to 205 cm. People planning an upgrade tend to allow for the extra width and forget that the bed also grows at the foot, which is exactly where a radiator or a door swing tends to be. The product page carries a size guide drawn from above and from the side with all six sizes to the same scale.
Twenty-six colourways
Upholstered to order in any of 26 colourways from the Coniston, Naples, Chenille, Linoso and Plush Velvet cloths, with the headboard, base and sides all in the cloth you choose.
The channels change how a colour behaves. In Plush Velvet, Steel and Mocca in particular, the pile shades as the channel curves, so a single colour gives you light and dark without any pattern at all. In a flatter cloth such as Slate Grey Naples or Silver Linoso the relief is quieter and the bed reads as a plain, solid shape. Both are good answers, but they are different beds, and worth seeing before you decide.
Buying one
Shoppers looking for beds in Glasgow can see the lift mechanism working in our store before committing, which is the fastest way to settle the drawers-against-lid question. The rest of the ottoman divan beds range uses the same base under other headboards if the channels are not for you.
Mattresses are sold separately, so the tension is your decision. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond that. Size and fabric are both chosen on the Wentworth product page, where the price updates as you build the combination.
