Wall Panel 88D Dark Oak: setting out corners and cut edges

Wall Panel 88D Dark Oak: setting out corners and cut edges — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 88D - Dark Oak - Outdoor - 290cm - (1 pack / 6pcs)

View the product

Cladding looks fitted or it looks improvised, and the difference is usually settled before the first fixing goes in. Wall Panel 88D - Dark Oak - Outdoor - 290cm is an interlocking exterior panel, code AWS-OWP023, and the two figures that govern setting out are its 16cm of cover and its 290cm length. This post is about using them in the right order.

Start from the corner you can see

Every clad run ends somewhere, and the cut panel has to land somewhere too. Pick the corner or edge that people look at from the patio door or the gate, start full-width there, and push the cut to the far end where a downpipe, a fence post or a planting bed will take the eye off it. If both ends are visible, divide the leftover in two and lose half at each end, which reads as deliberate rather than as a shortfall.

Do the division before you buy

Work in cover width, not panel count. Measure the run, divide by 16cm, and look at the remainder. A wall of 2.56m divides into exactly sixteen panels and needs no rip at all. A wall of 2.60m leaves you 4cm, which is the sliver worth avoiding; at that point you either take 2cm off the first and last panel or let the corner trim absorb it. Doing this on paper takes a few minutes and it changes where you start, which is the one decision you cannot revisit later.

Turning a corner and stopping an edge

The listing names both finishing parts, and both are ordered separately from the panels:

WherePart named on the listing
External cornerWall Panel 88/89 Corner Trim - 290cm, pack of four
Open or cut edgeWall Panel 88/89 End Trim - 290cm, pack of four

Count the corners and the open edges on a sketch, then convert to packs, remembering a pack holds four lengths. An internal corner is not covered by either part on this listing, so if your run turns inwards, ask the shop how that junction is meant to be closed before you order. The wider selection sits in Outdoor Trims & Fittings.

The panel figures, as published

Panels are listed at 16 x 290 x 2cm, when fitted and interlocked, six to a pack, covering 2.78m² per pack on the same interlocked basis. Note that the 2.78m² is coverage after assembly, so it is the number to plan the order around. The three dimensions are printed without labels, and while 290cm is obviously the length, confirm with the shop which of the remaining figures is the cover width before you set out a cutting list.

The questions the listing leaves you

No fixing method is named here, and no fixing centres are published, so how the panel is held back to a wall or a batten frame is a question for the shop rather than something to assume from the interlocking joint. The description stops at engineered PVC composite, textured slats and UV resistance; it gives no slat dimensions for this panel, no weight and no cutting advice for the material. Dark finishes also show dust and water marks more readily than mid tones, which is a cleaning consideration rather than a fault, and the listing gives no cleaning instructions at all.

Once the setting out is drawn, order the panels and the trims together: Wall Panel 88D - Dark Oak - Outdoor - 290cm, with the same size in lighter tones at Wall Panel 89A - Oak - Outdoor - 290cm and the rest of the Outdoor Wall Panels range alongside it.
