Wall Panel 84F Khaki: ordering enough, and turning a corner

Wall Panel 84F Khaki: ordering enough, and turning a corner — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 84F - Khaki - Outdoor - 240cm - (1 pack / 12pcs)

View the product

Wall Panel 84F in Khaki is the khaki in the 84 group of outdoor panels: a mid neutral rather than one of the wood colour names or the black. The listing gives the colour name and says nothing about grain or sheen, so the photographs are the only guide to how the face reads. It comes twelve panels to a pack at 16 x 240 x 1cm, covering 4.61m². Two things are worth settling before you add it to the basket.

Buy the whole job at once

Nothing on the listing promises that a pack ordered later will match one ordered now. A shade difference between packs shows up most on a run of one flat colour, and khaki is given as a colour name with no grain described against it, so a later pack could read as a band across the wall. Measure the whole area, work out every pack you need, add one panel of cutting allowance, and order it in one go rather than starting with a single pack to see how it looks.

The arithmetic is quick. Each panel is 16cm across the face, so a pack of twelve reaches 1.92m of wall width at the full 240cm height. Divide your wall width in centimetres by 16, divide that by twelve, round up. If you want to see the colour first, ask the shop whether a single panel or an offcut can be looked at before the main order goes in.

Two walls and a corner

Panelling a seating corner means the run turns through 90 degrees, and that is the detail the listing does not cover. The 84 listing names one companion item for edges, Wall Panel 84 Trim at 240cm, and no corner piece. Other groups in the range do list one: the 89 panels name both an end trim and a corner trim. So if your run turns a corner, ask the shop how the 84 panels are finished at an external angle before you order, because the options are a mitre, a proprietary corner piece, or a visible panel edge, and they do not look the same.

Internal corners are easier, since one wall simply stops against the other, but the panel that lands in the corner almost always needs ripping down the length. Allow for it.

What the listing publishes

  • Panel size 16 x 240 x 1cm, twelve pieces a pack, 4.61m² covered
  • Slat width 2.4cm with a 1.4cm space between slats, so a 3.8cm repeat
  • Named trim: Wall Panel 84 Trim at 240cm
  • Named brackets: Bracket For Outdoor Panels, fifty a pack, recommended for installation
  • Described as an engineered composite for outdoor use, UV resistant, resisting fading, warping and moisture damage

Not published: a test standard or figure behind any of those resistance claims, a fire rating, the panel weight, the fixings suited to a given wall, a slat count per panel, or whether the long edges overlap when fitted. The last one matters most for ordering, because it decides whether the 16cm is face width or covered width. The coverage figure is at least consistent with the wider reading, since twelve panels at 16cm by 240cm works out at 4.608m².

What khaki sits beside

A mid neutral is the easiest backdrop for planting, since foliage reads green against it rather than against a wood colour. Judge the exact shade from the photographs on the 84F product page, in the light the wall gets, since the listing offers only the colour name.

Khaki also runs at 290cm in packs of six as Wall Panel 83F in Khaki and Wall Panel 87F in Khaki, both worth a look if your wall is taller than 240cm, though neither listing says its khaki is the same khaki as this one. For a cooler neutral in the identical pack, there is Wall Panel 84B in Grey. Trims are in outdoor trims and fittings, and the rest of the panels in outdoor wall panels.
