Wall Panel 80B Light Grey: telling the two 80 greys apart

Wall Panel 80B Light Grey: telling the two 80 greys apart — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 80B - Light Grey - Seamless - 240cm - (1 pack / 12pcs)

View the product

The fluted 80 profile comes in four finishes, and two of those four are grey. Wall Panel 80B is the light one. That matters because the codes differ by a single letter, and a grey you did not want is a wall's worth of panel you have to send back. The photographs are on the Wall Panel 80B light grey pack page and they are the only reliable way to see the difference.

Two greys, one profile, one letter between them

In this profile the greys are 80B light grey and 80C mid grey. Everything else about them is the same: the same fluted face, the same twelve pieces, the same coverage. When you enquire or order, quote the letter and the tone together, in words, rather than relying on the word grey. If you are matching an existing wall or a sofa, send us a photograph and let us compare rather than deciding between light and mid from the names.

A third grey sits one step away in a different profile: Wall Panel 82B is a thinner 1cm panel in grey, and its listing does not describe a fluted face. The mid grey of this profile is Wall Panel 80C. Nothing in either listing promises that any two of these greys match each other, so do not mix codes across a corner.

What twelve pieces come to

FigureAs listed
Panel size, fitted and interlocked15 x 240 x 1.5cm
Pieces per pack12
Coverage per pack, fitted and interlocked4.32m²
Wall width faced at full height (worked out from the figures above)1.8m

Both the width and the coverage are given as fitted and interlocked, so the 15cm is what each piece covers once it is home, and you can plan from it directly. Twelve of them face 1.8m of wall. A chimney breast 1.2m across takes one pack with four pieces over, which is enough to return a little way onto the flanks. A 2.8m bedroom wall needs two packs and leaves 0.8m spare.

What the listing covers, and what it stays quiet about

Stated: PVC construction, vertical grooves, moisture resistance, and that it wipes clean. Not stated, and worth asking about if any of it bears on your room:

  • How it is fixed. No method, no fixings, no mention of battens. Adhesive for Wall Panels is listed separately, but this page does not tell you it is the right thing here.
  • Fire classification. Nothing is published. In a hallway, a stairwell or anything rented out, that is a question to put to us in writing.
  • Where moisture resistance stops. Resisting moisture is not the same as a rating for a shower wall or a splashback, and the listing does not make that larger claim.
  • The edge detail. No trim in the catalogue carries the 80 code.

A light grey flute, and the woodwork around it

A fluted face is a row of small shadows, and on a light grey those shadows are the pattern. Through the day they shift with the light, which is the reason people choose a flute over a flat board, and the reason a photograph taken at one hour of the morning is not the whole story. Two practical points follow. White or off-white woodwork beside a light grey panel reads as a deliberate break, so the cleaner your skirting and architrave lines, the better it looks. And where the panelling stops, the stopping point wants to be a line in the room already: the edge of a chimney breast, a corner, the line of a door head.

For the oak version of the same profile see Wall Panel 80A, and the full set of finishes is in Slat & Acoustic Panels. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.

Measure the wall, count in pieces of 15cm, then compare the tone on the Wall Panel 80B listing. Ask us before you order if there is any doubt which grey you are looking at.
