Wall Panel 74A Oak: interlocking panels and the trim length
This guide is about
Wall Panel 74A - Oak - Outdoor - 290cm - (1 pack / 6pcs)
Wall Panel 74A in oak is listed at 1.5cm deep, a slimmer face than the 2.5cm of the 73 panels, and its listing describes the pack as six interlocked panels rather than six loose boards. That changes how a run goes together and it changes what you order alongside it.
What the listing states
- Panel size: 20 x 290 x 1.5cm per fitted and interlocked panel.
- Six pieces per pack, covering 3.48m².
- Slat width 3.5cm, with 1.5cm spacing.
- A PVC composite panel with a UV protection coating, in an oak effect with black spacing between the slats.
- Compatible trim: Wall Panel 84 Trim - 240cm. Brackets recommended for installation.
- Code AWS-OWP74A.
Six panels at 20cm cover 1.2m of wall width when they run full height, so a pack is a little over a metre of boundary. The coverage figure of 3.48m² and the panel dimensions agree with each other, which is worth more than it sounds in a supplier listing.
Interlocking, and what it asks of your wall
Panels that lock into one another want a straight line to start from. The first panel sets every panel after it, so spend the time getting it plumb and packed off any bow in the wall, because an interlock will not let you steal a millimetre back at the far end the way a gap-fixed board might. The listing does not say whether a locked joint can be taken apart once fixed, so assume it cannot and dry-fit the first two.
It also does not state the exposed face width once two panels are locked together, only the panel size. If you are setting out so that a cut panel lands in a corner, confirm the fitted repeat with the shop before cutting anything.
The trim is shorter than the panel
This is the detail to spot before you order. The panel is 290cm long. The trim the listing names, Wall Panel 84 Trim - 240cm, is 240cm. On a full-height upright run, a single trim will not cover one edge in one piece, so you either joint two lengths or your run is shorter than the panel allows. Ask the shop how they normally finish a 290cm edge with this trim, and whether a longer one is available, rather than finding out with the panels already up.
Fixings are separate too: Bracket For Outdoor Panels is the item the listing recommends. Both sit in Outdoor Trims & Fittings.
What the listing claims, and what it does not
The description says the composite construction resists moisture, rot and insect damage, and that the UV coating resists fading and weathering. Those are the supplier's words and no test standard is quoted, so if your run is coastal, fully exposed or above a pool, ask for whatever specification sheet exists.
Unstated: the weight of a pack, the fixing centres for the brackets, whether the oak effect matches the oak finishes on the other profiles, and any colour for the trim.
The rest of the 74 panels
The same profile is listed in dark grey, dark brown and black, all at the same dimensions and coverage, so a change of mind on colour does not change your quantities. For a deeper 2.5cm face in oak, compare Wall Panel 73A in Oak 03 on the Outdoor Wall Panels page.
