Wall Panel 73T Walnut: slat spacing and where the joints land

Wall Panel 73T Walnut: slat spacing and where the joints land — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 73T - Walnut - Outdoor - 290cm - (1 pack / 6pcs)

View the product

Slatted panelling lives or dies on its rhythm. Get the repeat running evenly across a wall and it looks fitted; let a joint land half a slat out and the eye finds it from the far end of the garden. Wall Panel 73T in walnut gives you the numbers to set that out before anything is cut.

The figures, and what each one does

Listed figureValueWhat it decides
Slat width3.5cmThe width of each raised face
Space between slats1.5cmThe shadow line between them

A pack holds six panels and the listing gives the coverage as 3.65m². The code is AWS-OWP73T.

Where the joints fall

At 21cm wide, against a 5cm repeat, a panel joint falls a little past every fourth slat. The listing does not state how many slats there are to a panel or whether the gap at the panel edge is a half gap, so the one thing worth doing on site is dry-laying two panels together on the ground and looking at the join before a single bracket goes up. If the joint reads as a wider or narrower gap than the others, you want it in a planned place.

Set out from the most visible end, usually the end you see from the house or the patio door, and let the cut panel finish at the far corner or behind a planter. On a wall shorter than 290cm, cut the panels at the bottom where a trim or the ground line hides the end, not at the top where it sits against the sky.

What the listing says about the finish

It describes textured slats that give visual depth, and says the panels are UV resistant, which it links to holding colour under prolonged sun. Walnut is the finish name. The listing does not say whether the walnut effect is printed, embossed or coloured through, and it does not say whether the texture runs along the slat or across it. If you are matching an existing timber or another panel line, ask the shop what photographs or samples they can get you rather than ordering on a screen colour.

Walnut against the other finishes

The 73 panels all share this profile, so choosing is only about tone. Wall Panel 73D in dark brown is the flatter dark option, Wall Panel 73A in Oak 03 the lighter one, and the walnut tone also appears on a different profile as Wall Panel 89T - Walnut. Finishes with the same name across profiles are not promised to match, so keep a run to one product. The range is on the Outdoor Wall Panels page.

Finishing the edges

Open ends and corners want the pieces the listing names: Wall Panel 73/83 Trim - 290cm, Wall Panel 73/83 Corner Trim - 290cm and Bracket For Outdoor Panels, which it recommends for installation. They are listed in Outdoor Trims & Fittings and none of them come in the pack.

Ask the shop for the current lead time and for the pack weight if it has to go through a house. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. Once your set-out is drawn, order Wall Panel 73T - Walnut - Outdoor - 290cm with the trims it needs.
