73/83 Corner Trim: closing external angles in outdoor panelling

73/83 Corner Trim: closing external angles in outdoor panelling — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 73/83 Corner Trim - 290cm - (1 Pack / 3pcs)

View the product

Outdoor panelling looks either finished or unfinished at the corners, and very little else decides it. The Wall Panel 73/83 Corner Trim is the section that closes an external angle where two runs of 73 or 83 board meet. It comes three lengths to a pack, each 290cm, and the section is given as 4 x 4cm.

A pack is three lengths of 290cm

Corner trim is bought by the corner, not by the metre, which makes the arithmetic short: one length per external angle, provided the angle is no taller than 290cm. A pack therefore closes three. Anything taller needs a joint, and a joint on a corner is the one place on the whole wall where it will be noticed, so decide where it falls before you cut rather than after.

Measuring an external angle

Two things go wrong here. The first is assuming the corner is square. Old brickwork and rendered extensions often are not, and a rigid angle section will leave a gap along one side if the wall opens out. Hold a square against the corner before you order, and if it is out, say so when you ask about the profile.

The second is measuring to the masonry instead of to the face of the finished cladding. The trim covers the panel edges, so its height is the height of the panelling and it should be cut once the boards are up. Fit, then measure, then cut.

Seven finishes, and matching the board

The choices are Oak 03, Grey, Grey 02, Light Brown, Dark Brown, Black and Walnut. Two greys are offered and the listing does not describe how they differ, so if grey is the direction you are going, ask to see both before committing a whole corner to one of them.

Matching needs the same care. These names read like the panel finishes, but this page does not map each one to a panel code the way the flat Wall Panel 73/83 Trim does, where every finish names the boards it suits. Check the pairing with the shop rather than assuming Oak 03 is the oak you have ordered.

Stated, and not stated

The listing gives the material as composite, the length as 290cm, the section as 4 x 4cm, three pieces to a pack, and UV resistance which it says stops the trim fading or deteriorating outdoors. What it does not give: the fixing method, whether screws or adhesive are expected, whether the section is a true right angle, and the weight of a pack. The order of work is missing too, so if you are unsure whether the trim goes on before or after the boards, ask before you start.

The rest of the system

A panelled wall has three kinds of edge. Flat perimeter runs take the 73/83 Trim, sold in tens, and the boards are held back with the bracket pack for 73/83/84/92 panels. If your boards are 88s or 89s rather than 73s or 83s, the angle you want is the 88/89 Corner Trim. Everything in the group sits under Outdoor Trims & Fittings.

Count your external angles, confirm the finish against your panel code, then order the 73/83 corner trim pack alongside the boards so the finishes arrive together. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
