Wall Panel 63T Walnut: corners, cut edges and pack coverage

Wall Panel 63T Walnut: corners, cut edges and pack coverage — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 63T - Walnut - PVC - 240cm - (1 pack / 8pcs)

View the product

An interlocking panel runs beautifully along a flat wall and then arrives at a corner. That is where the work is, and it is why the listing for Wall Panel 63T in walnut names a corner strip alongside the panel itself. This post takes the corners first, because they decide how many panels you actually need.

Two widths are given because the tongue and groove takes 4.5cm out of each panel when it engages with the next one. Everything below uses the fitted 25.5cm, since that is the width that ends up on your wall.

Corners, returns and cut edges

A corner is not just a change of direction, it is a panel that has to be cut, and cutting a 63 panel to width removes either its tongue or its groove along with a strip of the wood effect face. What follows from that:

  • Plan the cut at the least visible end. Start the run from the corner people see first and let the cut panel land in the shadow or behind a door.
  • An external corner wants the named corner strip. Two cut edges meeting at an angle are the hardest thing on a panelled wall to make look deliberate, and Wall Panel 63 Corner Strip is the part the listing points to for it. The listing does not say how a cut edge is finished, so ask before you plan a corner without one.
  • Measure both faces of a return. A chimney breast has three faces and a pair of returns, and the returns are rarely the same width as each other.
  • A return narrower than 25.5cm uses a full panel anyway. Count it as one, not as a fraction, when you work out the pack total.

How far a pack goes across a wall

Eight fitted panels cover 204cm of wall at the panel's 240cm height. So a pack does a shade over two metres, and the maths runs: wall width in centimetres divided by 25.5, rounded up, then divided by eight and rounded up again. A 2m wall takes a single pack. An alcove either side of a chimney breast, say 1.1m each with 1.2m of breast between them, is 5, 5 and 5 panels, so 15 in all and two packs. The quantities get awkward quickly once corners are in the job, which is the argument for taking your measurements to the shop rather than ordering to the figure exactly.

Height is the easy one, but still measure it at both ends of each face. The panel is 240cm, and anything taller needs a trim or a planned gap at the ceiling.

Questions this listing leaves open

Said plainly, because they are not on the page. There is no fixing method and no panel weight, which is the detail that matters on plasterboard or over tiles, and the shop stocks Adhesive for Wall Panels if you ask what suits the wall. There is no quantity given for the trim or the corner strip. The moisture wording is general, naming kitchens and bathrooms and describing the panels as moisture resistant without a rating or a test behind it, and nothing addresses sealing an edge against a worktop. And there is no acoustic figure, which is correct for a PVC panel but means this is not the product if the room needs quietening.

The rest of the 63 series

The same panel is listed in oak and grey with identical figures, so a run of walnut and a return in grey is possible if you want the contrast. For walnut without the interlocking joint, Wall Panel 62T is a pack of eight at 30cm and 5.76m². For a wider walnut pack, Wall Panel 82T in walnut holds twelve pieces. Corner strips sit under panel trims and fittings, and the full range of boards and slatted panels is on the slat and acoustic panels page.
