Wall Panel 42K Shadow Oak: what it will and will not fix

Wall Panel 42K Shadow Oak: what it will and will not fix — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 42K - Shadow Oak - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)

View the product

People buy a panel like this for two reasons at once, and only one of them is a matter of taste. Wall Panel 42K in shadow oak is slatted HDF on a felt backing, four pieces a pack at 60 x 240 x 1.7cm and 5.76m² of cover. Its description says the backing absorbs sound and reduces noise transmission. It is worth being precise about what that sentence can and cannot do for you.

Which noise is the problem

Stand in the room and work out where the noise starts.

  • Noise made inside the room. Hard floor, bare plaster, a glass table, no curtains: voices and the television ring, and a video call sounds thin. Soft, broken surfaces help here, and a felt-backed slatted wall is one of them.
  • Noise arriving from somewhere else. A neighbour's hi-fi, traffic, footsteps overhead. That travels through structure and through gaps around doors and services. Lining your side of a wall with a decorative panel is not a serious answer to it, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling.

If the complaint is the first kind, this panel is a reasonable part of the fix alongside a rug and curtains. If it is the second, say so before you spend anything and we will tell you honestly that this is not the product for it.

The claim, and the figure that is not there

The listing describes the construction and the effect in words only. It quotes no measured absorption value, no class, no test standard and no breakdown by frequency, and it gives no panel weight. So this is felt-backed slatted panelling rather than a specified acoustic treatment, and those are not the same purchase. If you are treating a podcast room, a music room or an office against a written requirement, ask us whether the manufacturer publishes test data before ordering, and get the answer in writing.

What the pack covers

Each panel takes 60cm of wall width, so four reach 2.4m at full height. Divide the wall width by 60, round the remainder up to a whole panel, then up to a whole pack. A 4.2m wall takes seven panels, which is two packs with one spare. Most of these go on one wall rather than four, and a part-panelled room is normal: the wall behind a television or a speaker, or the one you face from the sofa, is usually the one worth treating first.

If it is the look you are after

Then the comparison is simpler. 41K is the same shadow oak at the same stated size under a different code, and the two listings do not explain what separates the profiles, so judge it on the photographs. 32K is a shadow oak described as three-sided, though the page does not say what that third side is. And if sound is irrelevant to the job, 61A is a PVC slat panel in oak effect that makes no absorption claim at all, which is the honest option when the look is the whole point.

Before the order goes in

No fixing method is named on the listing, so check what the panel wants before buying panel adhesive with it, and ask about a fire classification if the room is a workplace. Order the full wall together, since nothing on the page promises that two batches match. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. Photographs, the code AWS-HWP023 and the order form are on the Wall Panel 42K shadow oak page, with the rest of the profiles in Slat & Acoustic Panels.
