Wall Panel 21D Dark Oak: joints, coverage and pack maths
This guide is about
Wall Panel 21D - Dark Oak - Seamless - 240cm - (1 pack / 8pcs)
The Wall Panel 21D in dark oak is sold as a seamless panel: tongue-and-groove joints that close up, in the listing's own words, without visible gaps. What the listing does not do is describe the face. It calls each piece a slat in one sentence and quotes no slat width and no gap, so whether the surface is flat or profiled is a question for the photographs and for the shop rather than something to read into the word seamless. Below is what the listing actually states, the arithmetic to do before you order, and the point worth settling with the shop first.
Eight planks, and the run they give you
The listing quotes the panel as 30 x 240 x 1.2cm and does not label which figure is which. The 240cm in the product name settles the middle one as the length, which leaves 30cm across the face and 1.2cm of thickness. Eight of those in a pack gives you this:
| Face width, one plank | 30cm |
|---|---|
| Length | 240cm |
| Thickness | 1.2cm |
| Planks in a pack | 8 |
| Area a pack covers | 5.76m² |
Eight planks at 30cm across come to 240cm of wall, at a height of 240cm. In other words a pack is a 2.4 metre square of wall and nothing more, so the count is simple: divide your wall width by 0.3 to get planks, then round up to whole packs. A 3 metre wall takes ten planks, so two packs with six planks spare. A 3.6 metre wall takes twelve, again two packs. At 4.8 metres you use all sixteen planks from two packs with nothing left over.
Where moisture resistance is the deciding point
The description calls these PVC panels and says they suit areas where moisture resistance and easy maintenance matter. That is the listing's own wording and it is the reason people choose a plank like this over a timber one. What the listing does not do is qualify it: there is no rating quoted, and nothing that says whether the panel can sit inside a shower enclosure or only on a bathroom wall away from direct water. If that is the position you have in mind, ask the shop to confirm it for the exact spot before you order rather than reading the sentence generously.
One contradiction to settle first
The same paragraph calls the panel PVC and also describes three-sided oak veneer on each slat. Those two statements do not sit comfortably together, and on a dark oak panel the veneer sentence may be describing the series as a whole rather than this colourway. It is worth a direct question: is the face a real wood veneer, or a wood-effect finish on a PVC body? The answer changes how the panel takes a knock, how a cut end looks, and how closely it will sit against any solid oak already in the room.
Dark oak across a whole wall
A dark face is less forgiving than a pale one in two practical ways. Dust shows on it, and so does a cut edge, which is why the finishing strips in panel trims and fittings are worth ordering at the same time rather than afterwards. It will also read darker on the wall than it does in a photograph, particularly on a wall that gets no direct light, so judge it against the room rather than against a screen.
Before the order goes in
- Measure floor to ceiling in at least three places. The planks are 240cm, and a wall taller than that needs a horizontal join planned deliberately.
- The listing does not say whether the tongue-and-groove runs on the long edges only, so ask before you plan an end-to-end join.
- Allow for 1.2cm of build-out. Socket and switch faceplates, skirting, architraves and window reveals all sit that much shallower once the wall moves forward.
- Decide the fixing. The shop also supplies wall panel adhesive, and it is worth asking whether it is the right choice for your wall surface.
- Order the whole wall in one go so the planks come from the same run.
If dark oak is not quite the tone, the same plank appears as Wall Panel 21A in oak and Wall Panel 21T in walnut, with Wall Panel 21E in black at the other end of the group. The full set sits in slat and acoustic panels. Delivery is free within 50 miles of the Glasgow store and £50 beyond it.
When you have your plank count, the pack quantity and the finish confirmed, order the Wall Panel 21D dark oak seamless panel for the whole wall at once.
