Wall Panel 08T Walnut Blocks: sizes, coverage and wall fit
This guide is about
Wall Panel 08T - Walnut - Blocks - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)
The Wall Panel 08T in walnut is one of the block-pattern boards in our Slat & Acoustic Panels range. It is listed with an intricate mandala pattern, HDF construction and a felt backing. The listing quotes no slat width or gap for it, and does not say whether the pattern is cut into the face or printed on it, so judge that from the photographs or ask the shop. This post sticks to the numbers on the listing and what they mean once you are standing in front of the wall with a tape measure.
The figures, exactly as listed
| Item | As listed |
|---|---|
| Panel size | 60 x 240 x 1.7cm per panel |
| Pieces per pack | 4 |
| Area covered | 5.76m² per pack |
| Finish | Walnut |
| Construction | HDF with a felt backing |
| Matching trim | Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic |
| Code | AWS-WP068 |
The listing gives the size as 60 x 240 x 1.7cm. Read that as 60cm wide, 240cm tall and 1.7cm thick, which is how the coverage figure works out, but confirm the order with the shop if your wall is tight on any one of the three.
How much wall a pack actually covers
Each panel presents 60cm of width, so four panels run 2.4m along the wall at full height. Work in width, not area: a wall with a window or a chimney breast in it still needs a whole panel at every 60cm step.
| Packs | Panels | Width of wall | Face area |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4 | 2.4m | 5.76m² |
| 2 | 8 | 4.8m | 11.52m² |
| 3 | 12 | 7.2m | 17.28m² |
Measure the wall at the skirting and again at the ceiling. Older rooms are rarely square, and the wider of the two readings is the one to order to. Divide that width by 0.6 and round up, then add a panel if the last one lands as a narrow sliver, because a cut piece under about 15cm wide reads as a mistake rather than a margin.
The 1.7cm thickness is the detail people forget
These boards stand 1.7cm off the wall face. That changes four things in the room, none of which the listing covers:
- Sockets and switches. Faceplates sit proud of the plaster, so they need bringing forward. That is an electrician's job, and worth pricing before you order panels.
- Skirting and architrave. The panel either stops above the skirting or the skirting comes off and goes back on top. Decide which before you start.
- Door and window reveals. A reveal loses 1.7cm of opening where the panel turns in.
- Radiators and TV brackets. A bracket fixed through a panel needs fixings long enough to reach the wall behind it.
The listing does not say whether the pattern wraps the panel edges, so if you have an external corner to turn, ask the shop how 08T finishes at a corner before you commit.
What the listing does not tell you
Being straight about the gaps is more useful than filling them. For this panel the listing gives no sound absorption rating or test standard, no fire classification, no weight per panel or pack, no fixing method and nothing on moisture, so it should not be assumed suitable for a bathroom or anywhere outdoors. The felt backing is named but its colour is not. If you are specifying a studio or an office to a measured acoustic figure, ask the shop for the manufacturer's data rather than working from the description.
What it sits with
The same block pattern is listed in other finishes, which is the easy way to change the tone of a wall without changing the detail: Wall Panel 08A in oak, Wall Panel 08D in dark oak and Wall Panel 08F in grey. The range also carries Adhesive for Wall Panels, though this panel's listing does not specify a fixing method, so tell the shop what your wall is made of and take its recommendation. Colour on a screen is not reliable for a walnut finish, so speak to the shop before you order a whole wall of it.
Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. When the pallet arrives, open it and check every panel for edge damage before anything goes on the wall, and ask the shop for the current lead time when you order so you can book your fitter to match.
