Wall Panel 04D Dark Oak: planning a panelled media wall
This guide is about
Wall Panel 04D - Dark Oak - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)
Panelling the wall behind a television has more to get wrong than a plain feature wall. The Wall Panel 04D in Dark Oak is a sensible starting point from the slat and acoustic panel range, because a dark face hides the screen bezel rather than framing it, and the two-width slat profile gives the wall something to do when the television is off.
The figures from the listing
| Detail | As listed |
|---|---|
| Panel size | 60 x 240 x 1.7cm per panel |
| Pieces per pack | 4 |
| Area covered | 5.76m² per pack |
| Slat width | 3.8cm + 1.8cm |
| Space between slats | 1cm |
| Trim named | Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic |
The description gives HDF slats on a felt backing in a dark oak finish. The dimensions read as width, height and thickness: 60cm wide, 240cm tall, 1.7cm off the wall. If the two widths alternate, a wide slat, a gap, a narrow slat and a gap add up to 7.6cm, which does not divide evenly into 60cm. The listing does not state the slat count per panel, the order the two widths run in, or which slat sits at the edge. Ask the shop how two panels read butted together if a seamless pattern matters.
Four things to settle before you panel a TV wall
- Fix the bracket to the wall, not the panel. The listing gives no weight capacity for the panel and no fixing method, so nothing should hang off it. Mark and fit the bracket to the structure behind, then cut the panel around the plate.
- Do not assume a void behind the slats. At 1.7cm the panel is a slatted face on a felt back; the listing does not describe a cavity, so plan cable routes through the wall or in trunking rather than relying on space behind the panelling.
- Set the screen centre line first. The panel count follows the wall, but where the seams land relative to the screen is what you will look at every evening. A seam at the exact centre of a screen is the one to avoid.
- Check the sockets. Mark every outlet before the first panel goes on, and allow for the 1.7cm the finished face adds in front of a plug.
How much wall one pack covers
Four 60cm panels reach 2.4m of width at full height:
- Up to 2.4m wide: one pack
- Up to 4.8m wide: two packs
- Up to 7.2m wide: three packs
The 5.76m² quoted is the face area of four panels, not a waste allowance. On a media wall there are usually two or three panels cut around brackets and outlets, so count panels across the width and round up.
Matching and finishing
The same profile runs in other finishes, which helps when the media wall is dark and the rest of the room is not: the Wall Panel 04A in Oak and the Wall Panel 04T in Walnut share every dimension here. For dark oak on different slat profiles, compare the Wall Panel 01D Dark Oak and the wider-ribbed Wall Panel 17D Dark Oak. Cut edges take the trim the listing names, Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic, with end and corner profiles in the panel trims and fittings range; trims are sold in their own lengths, so check the length against your edge. A panelled wall also changes what sits beneath it, and the TV units range is worth measuring against the finished face rather than the bare wall.
What the listing does not say
No absorption coefficient, no test standard, no fire rating, no panel weight, no load capacity, no felt colour and no fixing method, and the listing does not state whether the dark oak face is a veneer or a printed finish. The description says the felt backing absorbs sound and reduces noise transmission; that is all the evidence there is, so treat the panel as felt-backed slatted panelling rather than a measured acoustic treatment. Ask the shop about the gaps that affect your job, and ask for the current lead time.
Set the screen position, count the panels, then order the Wall Panel 04D Dark Oak acoustic pack on its product page. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
