Wall Panel 04F Light Grey: slat shadows, coverage and fit

Wall Panel 04F Light Grey: slat shadows, coverage and fit — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 04F - Light Grey - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)

View the product

On a slat wall the colour and the shadow are two separate decisions, and a pale finish makes the second one louder. The Wall Panel 04F in Light Grey sits on the two-width profile in the slat and acoustic panel range: the listing gives slat widths of 3.8cm and 1.8cm with 1cm between them, so the face carries a wide rib and a narrow one rather than one repeated size, and each gap throws its own shadow line. The order the two widths run in is not stated.

The description gives HDF slats on a felt backing in a light grey finish. The size reads as width, height and thickness, so each panel is 60cm wide, 240cm tall and sits 1.7cm off the wall. If the two widths alternate, a wide slat, a gap, a narrow slat and a gap total 7.6cm, and 7.6cm does not divide evenly into 60cm. The listing does not say how many slats a panel carries, the order the widths run in, or which one lands at the edge, so ask the shop how two panels look butted together if a continuous pattern matters to you.

Light grey, and what the gaps do

A pale face shows less of the slat and more of the shadow, so the wall is read by the dark lines between the ribs rather than by the colour. Two practical consequences. In a room with one window the wall will look different at each end of the day, and that is more noticeable on light grey than on a dark finish. And it is the felt backing that is likely to show down each 1cm gap, yet the listing does not state the felt colour, which on a light panel is worth knowing before you order rather than after; ask the shop. If you want to make the shadows deliberate rather than accidental, the panel lighting range is the place to start.

How much wall a pack covers

Four 60cm panels reach 2.4m across at full height:

  • Up to 2.4m wide: one pack
  • Up to 4.8m wide: two packs
  • Up to 7.2m wide: three packs

The 5.76m² in the listing is the face area of four panels, not an allowance for cuts. Count whole panels across the width, since a panel trimmed around a window reveal or a socket is still a panel used.

Measuring, matching and finishing

  1. Wall width at the top and the bottom, working from the wider figure.
  2. Floor to ceiling in three places. Below 240cm the panels trim down; above it, plan the join before you buy.
  3. Split any leftover width between the two ends instead of leaving one narrow panel in a corner.
  4. Allow the 1.7cm projection where the face meets a skirting return, an architrave or a radiator.

For the same profile in a warmer tone, compare the Wall Panel 04A in Oak. For light grey on different profiles, the Wall Panel 01B Light Grey and the Wall Panel 15B Light Grey are the two to put beside it, and the photographs are the only reliable way to judge how close the greys are. Cut edges take the trim the listing names, Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic, with end and corner profiles in the panel trims and fittings range; trims come in their own lengths, so check yours covers the edge.

What the listing does not say

No absorption figure, no test standard, no fire rating, no weight, no fixing method, and no statement of whether the grey face is printed or a veneer. The description says the felt backing absorbs sound and reduces transmission; that is the extent of it, so treat the panel as felt-backed slatted panelling and not as a measured acoustic product. Ask the shop if any of those gaps decide the job, and ask for the current lead time.

Once the panel count is settled, order the Wall Panel 04F Light Grey acoustic pack on its product page. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
