Wall Panel 04A Oak: the two-width slat profile, measured up

Wall Panel 04A Oak: the two-width slat profile, measured up — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 04A - Oak - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)

View the product

Most slat panels repeat one slat width across the face. The Wall Panel 04A in Oak does not: the listing gives two slat widths, 3.8cm and 1.8cm, with 1cm between them, so the face carries a wide rib and a narrow one rather than one repeated size. That mixed rib is the whole reason to choose it over the plainer profiles in the slat and acoustic panel range, and it changes how the wall reads from an angle rather than straight on. The listing does not state the order the two widths run in, so the photographs are the thing to look at.

The figures from the listing

DetailAs listed
Panel size60 x 240 x 1.7cm per panel
Pieces per pack4
Area covered5.76m² per pack
Slat width3.8cm + 1.8cm
Space between slats1cm
Trim namedWall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic

The construction described is HDF slats on a felt backing with an oak finish. The dimensions read as width, height and thickness: 60cm across, 240cm tall, standing 1.7cm off the wall. If the two widths alternate, a wide slat, a gap, a narrow slat and a gap come to 7.6cm, and 7.6cm does not divide evenly into 60cm. The listing does not state how many slats are on a panel, the order the two widths run in, or which slat sits at each edge, so if you care about the pattern reading continuously across a seam, ask the shop what two panels look like butted together.

How far a pack goes

Four panels at 60cm wide give 2.4m of wall width at 240cm height. Plan in packs, because that is the unit sold:

  • Up to 2.4m wide: one pack
  • Up to 4.8m wide: two packs
  • Up to 7.2m wide: three packs

The 5.76m² figure is the face area of four panels. It is not a waste allowance, and it will mislead you on a wall with a door or a window in it, where a part-width panel still consumes a whole one. Count panels across the width instead.

Setting the wall out

  1. Measure the wall width at the top and at the bottom and work from the wider reading.
  2. Measure floor to ceiling in three places. At 240cm a panel will trim down, but a ceiling that runs over 240cm at one end needs a decision before the first panel goes up, not after.
  3. Divide the width by 60cm and see what is left. If the remainder is a narrow strip, split it between both ends rather than leaving it all in one corner; a 20cm panel at each side looks deliberate, a 40cm one on its own does not.
  4. Mark the socket and switch positions on the wall before you start, and allow for the 1.7cm the face projects where it meets an architrave or a skirting return.

The rest of the 04 range, and the trim

The same profile is listed in three other finishes, which is useful when one wall differs from another in the same room: the Wall Panel 04D in Dark Oak, the Wall Panel 04T in Walnut and the Wall Panel 04F in Light Grey. If you want oak on a single-width slat instead, the Wall Panel 01A Natural Oak is the one to compare against. The listing names Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic for the cut edges, and the panel trims and fittings range holds the end and corner profiles. Trims are sold in their own lengths, so check the length you order matches the edge you are finishing.

What the listing does not state

No absorption coefficient, no test standard, no fire rating. The description says the felt backing absorbs sound and reduces noise transmission, and that is the limit of the data, so judge it as felt-backed slatted panelling rather than a specified acoustic treatment. Nothing is given for panel weight, felt colour or fixing method, and the listing does not say whether the oak face is a veneer or a printed finish. If the job has a specification to meet, ask the shop before ordering and ask for the current lead time.

Work out your panel count, round up to whole packs, and order the Wall Panel 04A Oak acoustic pack from its product page. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
