Wall Panel 01Q Smoked Oak: the figures, and one to check

Wall Panel 01Q Smoked Oak: the figures, and one to check — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 01Q - Smoked Oak - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)

View the product

Wall Panel 01Q is the smoked oak finish in the 60cm slat range: HDF slats on a felt backing, 240cm tall, four panels to a pack. The dimensions and slat geometry on the Wall Panel 01Q smoked oak acoustic panel listing are clear and usable. The colour wording on it is not, and that is worth dealing with first.

The finish: name and description disagree

The product name says smoked oak. The description text on the same listing says walnut. The supplier code, AWS-WP0142, carries no colour in it and settles nothing, and the listing says nothing about which of the two is right, so the written description is not the thing to trust on colour. Go by the photographs, and if the panelling has to match a floor, a door or an existing run of panels, ask the shop to confirm the finish before you order. It is a short question and it saves a wall.

The listed figures

ItemListed figure
Panel size60 x 240 x 1.5cm per panel
Pieces per pack4
Area covered5.76m² per pack
Slat width2.5cm

The coverage checks out: 0.6m x 2.4m is 1.44m² a panel and four give the 5.76m² quoted. Read the dimensions as 60 wide, 240 tall, 1.5 deep, which the 240cm in the name supports, but the listing does not label them, so confirm which figure is which before cutting. Unlike some panels in the range, this listing names no trim, so ask what fits a 1.5cm panel.

Working out the panel count

A pack of four covers 2.4m of wall width at the full 240cm height. Measure in columns of 60cm:

  • Take the wall width at the top and at skirting level and use the wider figure.
  • Divide by 0.6 and round up for the panel count.
  • Check floor to ceiling. At 240cm the panel suits a wall up to that height, and a taller wall needs a join or one of the 280cm panels in the slat and acoustic panel range.
  • The slats and gaps give a 4cm repeat, fifteen of them across a panel by arithmetic from the published figures. Decide where the cut panel goes before you start, so the narrow one lands in the least visible corner.
  • Allow for the 1.5cm depth at skirting, architrave, reveals and any socket on the wall.

Sound: the claim, without the number

The construction is slats over felt, and the description says it absorbs sound and reduces noise. No absorption coefficient, class or decibel figure is published, and nothing in the listing claims the panel stops sound travelling through the wall. For a snug or a living room that rings off hard plaster, the description is the right scale of claim. For an office or a studio that needs a figure on paper, ask the shop to get the supplier's data.

If smoked oak is not quite it

Given the copy conflict, it is worth looking at the near neighbours while you decide. Wall Panel 01T in walnut is the panel the description's wording actually points at, so comparing the two photographs will settle quickly which finish you are after. Wall Panel 01P in teak oak is the warmer option on identical dimensions, and Wall Panel 17Q in smoked oak is the wide-slat version of the same finish if you want a broader rhythm. Adhesive is not included with any of them, so add adhesive for wall panels to the order.

Delivery is free within 50 miles of the Glasgow store and £50 beyond. The photographs and the published figures are on the Wall Panel 01Q smoked oak acoustic panel page, and the shop can confirm the finish and the trim with the supplier before you commit to a room.
