Wall Panel 010B Antique Metallic Gold: lighting it and sizing it
This guide is about
Wall Panel 010B - Antique Metallic Gold - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)
Wall Panel 010B - Antique Metallic Gold is an acoustic panel in the Slat & Acoustic Panels range, code AWS-WP038. The listing gives 60 x 240 x 1.7cm per panel, four pieces to a pack, 5.76m² of coverage, HDF slats with a felt backing, and an ornate antique metallic gold design.
Light decides what this panel looks like
The listing describes the finish as antique metallic gold and leaves the rest to the photographs, which is the difficulty: a metallic face takes its colour from the light in the room, so the same panel will not look the same under a downlight, in grey daylight and under a warm lamp. Three things are worth doing before you commit a wall to it:
- Find out where the light comes from. A wall washed from above will show the profile as alternating highlight and shadow. A wall lit from the opposite side of the room will mostly show reflection.
- Look at it twice. Daylight and evening light are different panels. If you can see it in the shop, see it in both.
- Keep spotlights off it unless you want the pattern loud. A downlight close to the wall exaggerates every ridge.
How much wall to give it
Panels are 0.6m wide, so the wall width divided by 0.6 and rounded up is the panel count, and four panels make a pack.
| Wall width | Panels at 0.6m wide | Packs of 4 |
|---|---|---|
| 1.2m | 2 | 1 |
| 1.8m | 3 | 1 |
| 2.4m | 4 | 1 |
| 3.0m | 5 | 2 |
| 4.2m | 7 | 2 |
A single pack covering 5.76m² at full height is about a 2.4m width, which is roughly a chimney breast with its returns, the wall behind a headboard, or the panel of wall between two doors. That is usually the right amount of gold in a room. Measure the face and both returns of a chimney breast separately, because a return narrower than 0.6m still takes a full panel cut down.
What is published, and what is not
| Figure | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Panel size | 60 x 240 x 1.7cm per panel |
| Pieces per pack | 4 |
| Coverage | 5.76m² per pack |
| Construction | HDF slats with a felt backing |
| Slat width and gap | Not stated |
| Acoustic rating | Not stated: no NRC, no αw value, no test standard |
| Fixing method | Not stated |
| Matching trim | None named on this listing |
The bottom half of that table is the part to turn into questions. The slat width and gap matter because they decide where a cut can fall at a corner; the fixing method matters because an uneven wall may need battens; and the trim matters because a cut top edge or an external corner has to be finished with something. Ask the shop rather than assuming the 01-series figures carry over, because this panel is a different profile and a different thickness.
The set, and ordering
The same ornate profile comes in two other finishes on the same panel size: Wall Panel 010A - Antique Metallic Grey and Wall Panel 010C - Antique Metallic Brown. If you want gold without the pattern, Wall Panel 01WG - Metallic Gold is the plain slat version. Adhesive for Wall Panels is sold separately, and it is worth ordering a spare panel where your quantity lands exactly on a pack. Delivery is free within 50 miles of the Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
