Wall Panel 01WO Grey Marble: how to measure and cut-plan it

Wall Panel 01WO Grey Marble: how to measure and cut-plan it — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 01WO - Grey Marble - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)

View the product

Wall Panel 01WO - Grey Marble is an acoustic slat panel in the Slat & Acoustic Panels range, code AWS-WP0211. The listing gives 60 x 240 x 1.5cm per panel, four panels to a pack, 5.76m² of coverage, 2.5cm slats and 1.5cm between them, over HDF slats on a felt backing.

Measure in this order

  1. Height, in three places. Left, middle, right, floor to ceiling. Use the shortest for your cut length and keep the difference in mind: it has to go somewhere, usually behind the skirting or under a coving line.
  2. Width, twice. At the ceiling and at the skirting. On an older wall these differ, and the gap shows at the last panel.
  3. Obstructions, with two measurements each. Distance from the left-hand corner and height from the floor, for every socket, switch, radiator bracket and pipe.
  4. Depth checks. The panel stands 1.5cm off the wall, so look at the window reveal, the door architrave and anything that currently sits flush with the plaster.

Panels, packs and the cut plan

Panels are 0.6m wide. Wall width divided by 0.6, rounded up, is the panel count; four to a pack.

Look at the spare column. A 2.4m or 4.8m wall uses every panel in the pack and leaves nothing for a mistake, so a notch that goes wrong means waiting on another pack. Where the sum lands exactly, it is worth adding one.

Where the cut goes

A 2.5cm slat and a 1.5cm gap make a 4cm repeat, so a 60cm panel face holds fifteen of those repeats if the pattern runs uniformly from edge to edge. Starting a wall with a full panel in the left corner means the cut panel lands on the right; starting with a half panel at each end gives a symmetrical wall but two cuts. Neither is wrong, but the decision is easier made with a tape in your hand than with the panels leaning against the wall. The listing does not say how the slats sit at the panel edges, so if you need the rhythm to look continuous across a joint, ask first.

Grey marble in a grey scheme

Grey is the colour most likely to clash with something already in the room, because a grey can be warm or cold and a photograph will not tell you which. If the room has a grey carpet, a grey sofa or grey tiling, see the panel against them before you order a wall's worth. The listing names the finish as grey marble and gives the construction as HDF slats on felt, but it does not describe how the pattern is applied or whether the veining carries from one panel to the next, so ask.

The alternatives, and ordering

For a taller wall, the same grey marble finish is listed as Wall Panel 02WO - Grey Marble - 280cm, three pieces to a pack, so ask for its coverage per pack rather than reusing the figures above. For a flat board rather than slats, Wall Panel 011B - Grey Marble Wall Board is the same idea without the gaps, and Wall Panel 01WK - White Marble is the lighter slat option. The listing names a matching trim, the Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic, sold separately, and Adhesive for Wall Panels is a separate line. No acoustic rating is published for this panel, so ask for the manufacturer's data if you need one.
