Wall Panel 01G Shiny Gold: where a metallic slat wall works

Wall Panel 01G Shiny Gold: where a metallic slat wall works — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 01G - Shiny Gold - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)

View the product

Wall Panel 01G in shiny gold is a felt-backed slat panel the shop supplies in a metallic finish: HDF slats, four panels to a pack at 60 x 240 x 1.5cm, 5.76m² covered. It is the same panel format as the oak and grey finishes in this range, and a completely different decision to make, because a reflective surface shows everything the wall behind it is doing.

The figures, as listed

FigureAs the listing gives it
Panel size60 x 240 x 1.5cm per panel
Pieces per pack4
Area covered5.76m² per pack
Slat width2.5cm
Space between slats1.5cm
ConstructionHDF slats with a felt backing

Four panels 0.6m wide and 2.4m tall is 5.76m², so the coverage figure holds. Note one difference from the wood and grey panels in this range: no trim is named on this listing, where most of its siblings name the Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic. On a gold panel the exposed end of a run is the first thing anyone notices, so ask the shop what finishes the edge before you order rather than after the panels arrive.

Where a metallic slat wall actually works

Gold works in short, deliberate runs where it is read as an object. The walls it suits in practice:

  • A chimney breast or a single alcove, roughly 1.2m wide, which is half a pack.
  • A bar back, a reception desk return or the wall behind a console table, where the run is low or narrow and the finish catches light from a fitting you control. No moisture rating is given, so keep it away from splashes until the shop confirms otherwise.
  • A full-height panel behind a headboard, as a band rather than the whole wall.

Where it tends to disappoint is the large, flat, daylit wall. A reflective face amplifies any undulation in the plaster behind it, and 2.4m of uninterrupted gold opposite a window is more mirror than texture. If you want the warmth without the shine, this is the wrong panel for the job, and it is worth asking the shop to put the gold finishes in the range side by side before you choose.

Setting it out, and the two fittings that matter

Measure the wall's greatest width and greatest height, multiply in metres, divide by 5.76: a 1.2m by 2.4m chimney breast is 2.88m², so one pack does it with panels spare. Put your full panels where the eye lands from the doorway and make up the difference in the far corner.

Two details are worth more on this finish than on any other in the range:

  1. The light. Graze it from above or from one side. A metallic slat face lit straight on goes flat and slightly cheap; the same panel lit from the edge reads as texture and depth.
  2. The edge. With no trim named here, decide how the run stops: against a return wall, into a reveal, or behind something. A cut end of a slatted panel left open is the usual regret.

Order the whole area at once. Nothing on the listing promises consistency between production batches, and on a reflective finish a slight difference between two panels is visible from across the room.

What the listing does not say

No fire rating, no moisture rating, no fixing method, no cleaning instruction, and nothing about whether the metallic face marks or scratches in handling, which is a fair question to put to the shop before you buy it for a hallway or a bar front. The description talks about sound control for demanding environments but gives no measured absorption figure at all, so do not carry it into a specification without asking the shop whether any test data exists. The shop supplies adhesive for wall panels, though this listing does not name it as the fixing for this panel, so confirm it.

The other metallics to compare

If gold is right but the shine is not, 01WG Metallic Gold is the other gold in the same slatted format, with the same slat and gap figures; its listing calls the finish metallic rather than shiny, but neither listing says how reflective either face is, so ask to see the two together. 013A PS Gold and Grey puts gold and grey in one panel, which is the one to look at for a larger wall; check its own figures on its page, as it does not give a slat width or gap. For the same panel in a cooler metal, there is 01S Shiny Silver. Everything is in Slat & Acoustic Panels.

Decide the wall and the lighting first, then the photographs and specification are on the Wall Panel 01G - Shiny Gold - Acoustic page, where the shop can also confirm the edge trim and the current lead time. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
