Torino Small Sideboard: choosing between the four Torino sizes
This guide is about
Torino Small Sideboard
The Torino Small Sideboard is listed at 97 x 40 x 81cm, which puts it in the middle of the Torino pieces we list. Since none of those listings describes itself beyond a dimension string, the only sensible way to choose between them is to put the figures side by side and measure your room. That is what this post does.
Every Torino size in one table
| Listing | Size as given | Shape |
|---|---|---|
| Torino Mini Sideboard | 70 x 35 x 81cm | Narrow and shallow |
| Torino Small Sideboard | 97 x 40 x 81cm | Middle |
| Torino Large Sideboard | 137 x 40 x 81cm | A full wall |
| Torino Display Cabinet | 36 x 85 x 180cm | Tall case; the figures do not appear to run width first |
The three sideboards share an 81cm height, so the choice between them is length and depth only. The display cabinet is a different thing altogether, and none of these listings labels its three figures: on the cabinet they most likely read depth, width then height, but that is our reading rather than anything the listing says, so ask us to confirm it before you plan around it.
The two measurements that settle it
First, the usable wall: the distance between whatever actually interrupts the wall, measured at skirting level as well as at waist height. Take 15cm off at each end for breathing space and compare what is left against 70cm, 97cm and 137cm. Second, the clear floor you can spare going out from the wall. The mini gives back 5cm against the other two, which matters in a hall and is irrelevant in a dining room.
Where the wall allows 97cm, this is usually the size to take. A 70cm cabinet in a wide space looks lost, and a 137cm piece in a 110cm gap is simply not going in.
What a 97cm top is good for
Long enough for a lamp at one end and a tray or a few serving dishes at the other, which is the arrangement most people end up with. Short enough to sit between a chimney breast and a door, or on the wall opposite a sofa without dominating it. Behind a dining chair, remember the 40cm depth is in addition to the space the chair needs when it is pushed back.
What all four listings leave out
- Material, finish and colour: not stated on any of them. The photographs are the evidence, and we can tell you what the pieces are actually like.
- Internal layout and clear internal heights, on every size.
- Weight, packaging and whether anything arrives put together.
Those are gaps in the supplier's own copy, not secrets. Ask us and we will check the piece rather than publish a guess.
If the table says a different size
Go to the Torino Mini Sideboard for 70 x 35 x 81cm, the Torino Large Sideboard for 137 x 40 x 81cm, or the Torino Display Cabinet if what you really want is height and a shallow case rather than a run of worktop. All of them, plus the Lucca, Milan and London pieces, are in Sideboards & Cabinets.
Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. With your wall measurement in hand, the Torino Small Sideboard page carries the photographs and the order form.
