This guide is about

Torino Large Sideboard

View the product

The Torino Large Sideboard is listed at one size, 137 x 40 x 81cm. Most people put a piece this length in a dining room, and in a dining room the sideboard is rarely what fails. What fails is the space behind the chairs, so that is where this post starts.

Work backwards from the chairs

Start at the table edge, not the wall. A chair pushed back far enough to stand up from takes about 75cm behind the table. If anyone needs to pass behind a seated diner, that figure goes to roughly 100cm, and a person carrying a tray wants a little more again. Add the sideboard's 40cm depth to whichever of those numbers applies to your room, and that total is how far the table edge has to sit from the wall before the sideboard will work at all. In a narrow dining room, this is the sum that sends people back to a shallower piece.

Serving from an 81cm top

Dining tables usually stand at around 75cm, so an 81cm top is a few centimetres above the table. That is a sensible relationship: carving and plating up happen at a comfortable height for someone standing, and plates go down to the table rather than being lifted up to it. A 137cm run is long enough to hold a hot dish at one end and clean plates at the other without them meeting in the middle.

Same footprint, different range

The Lucca Large Sideboard publishes the identical figures: 137x40x81cm. Neither listing describes its own material or finish, so on the published data the only difference between the two is the name, and the photographs are the only honest way to compare them. If the finish is what decides it, ask us and we will check what each one actually is rather than publish a guess here.

What you will have to ask us

  • Material, finish and colour. None of it is published.
  • The internal layout: doors, drawers, shelf positions and the clear height inside. For a dining sideboard that decides whether table linen and a large platter both fit.
  • Weight, and whether it arrives assembled, so you can plan the route in and the help at the door.

Sizing up and down

If 137cm is too long for the wall, the Torino Small Sideboard is listed at 97 x 40 x 81cm and the Torino Mini Sideboard at 70 x 35 x 81cm, both the same height. The tables themselves are in Dining Tables, and the full set of cabinets is in Sideboards & Cabinets.

Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. Measure from the table edge outwards, then the Torino Large Sideboard page carries the photographs and the order form.
