Torino Console Table: measuring up a shallow 85cm console

Torino Console Table: measuring up a shallow 85cm console — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Torino Console Table

View the product

The listing for the Torino Console Table is short and we will not pad it out: size available, 85 x 34 x 70cm. There is no material, finish or base description published with it. What the figures do tell you is a great deal about where this console works, so that is what this post covers, along with the questions worth asking before you order.

The figures and how to read them

FigureMost likelyWhy it matters
85cmWidthFits short runs of wall a 1.2m console cannot
34cmDepthKeeps a hallway walkable
70cmHeightSets the gap to a mirror and the line against a sofa back

Width, depth then height is the standard order and the one we would expect here. The listing does not label them, so confirm it with us if the table has to land between two fixed points.

What a 34cm depth does in a hall

Depth is what makes or breaks a console. Measure the narrowest point of the hall, over the skirting rather than above it, and subtract 34cm. The figure left is the walkway you actually get, and it has to work for someone carrying bags, pushing a buggy or passing another person.

Two practical checks at this depth. Measure your skirting, because it holds the table off the wall and adds to the 34cm. And measure the base of whatever you plan to stand on it: a wide lamp or bowl will overhang at the front edge, which is where a coat sleeve catches it.

85cm and 70cm in a real room

85cm suits the wall between a door architrave and a corner, the side of a stair, or the short wall of a square hall. If your run is longer, the 1.2m consoles give you more surface: the Chelsea Console Table on a pedestal and the SG-Lewis Console Table on four legs are both listed at 120 x 40 x 75cm.

The 70cm height is lower than those, which changes two things. Anything hanging above wants its own gap measured from this top rather than copied from a taller table. And if the console is going behind a sofa, measure the sofa back first, because a console below that line vanishes behind it while one above it reads as a shelf.

The Lucca Console Table is listed with the same three figures, so if you like the size, compare the photographs on the two pages and pick on looks.

What is not published

  • The top material and finish.
  • The base: legs, pedestal, frame finish, none of it stated.
  • The colour, so judge it from the photographs and confirm with us.
  • Weight and whether it arrives assembled, both of which matter on a stair.

Those are honest gaps. Send them to us as one question and you will have the full picture before you decide, rather than a guess dressed up as a specification.

Before you order

Tape 85cm by 34cm on the floor and use the space normally for a while before committing, then compare the rest of the sizes in console tables. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. The photographs and the order button are on the Torino Console Table page, and we will answer the material, base and weight questions before you buy.
