Thornbury Kids Chesterfield Divan Bed: Drawers Where You Need Them
This guide is about
Thornbury Kids Chesterfield Divan Bed
The useful thing about the Thornbury kids bed is not the headboard, although the headboard is the part you will notice. It is that you choose where the storage goes. Five configurations are offered: no storage at all, two drawers on the left side, two on the right, two at the foot end, or four drawers. In a child's room, where one side of the bed is usually against a wall and the other is the only walking space, that choice decides whether the drawers get used. The options are all on the Thornbury kids Chesterfield divan bed page.
Choosing the drawer layout
Walk the room before you decide. A drawer needs clear floor in front of it equal to its own depth, and a child's floor is rarely clear. If the bed sits with its left side to a wall, two drawers on the right is the only sensible answer. If it is in an alcove with both sides boxed in, two drawers at the foot end is what you have. Four drawers is for a bed standing free of the walls, and the no-storage option keeps the bed at its simplest if a chest of drawers is already doing that job.
It is worth thinking about who opens them. A child can manage a drawer at the foot of their own bed far more easily than one they have to kneel beside.
The headboard
The headboard is crystal-buttoned diamond tufting, with side posts rising a little above the centre to give the top a stepped outline. It is scaled for a child's room rather than reduced to a cartoon of the adult version, and it is upholstered in the same cloth as the rest of the bed, so you are not matching a board to a base and hoping. Two headboard heights are listed, a 26 inch board and a 54 inch floor standing one; the configurator on the page shows what is available for the size you pick.
Four sizes
Measured across the finished bed at its widest point:
- Small Single 2FT6 - 75 cm wide by 191.5 cm long
- Single 3FT - 90 cm wide by 191.5 cm long
- Small Double 4FT - 120 cm wide by 191.5 cm long
- Double 4FT6 - 135 cm wide by 191.5 cm long
All four are 191.5 cm long. The small single at 75 cm wide is genuinely narrow and is the one that rescues a box room or lets two beds fit a shared bedroom; the small double at 120 cm is the useful middle size for a child who will be a teenager in the same bed. Remember to add the drawer clearance to your plan, not just the bed. The product page has a full size guide drawing each size from the side and from above to one scale.
Twenty-six colourways
Every part of the bed finished in cloth, headboard, base and sides, is upholstered to order in the colourway you choose, from 26 options. The buttoned diamonds hold shadow, so a velvet in Pink, Blue or Emerald reads strongly, while Cream Chenille, Silver Linoso or Almond Coniston keep it calm for a room that gets redecorated around the bed. If the room has to work for years rather than a phase, the quieter cloths are easier to live beside.
Mattresses, questions and delivery
Mattresses are sold separately, which lets you buy the tension a growing child needs rather than inheriting one. Anything the listing does not state is worth asking us about rather than guessing, including fabric composition and drawer dimensions.
We sell beds in Glasgow from our own store, and delivery is free within 50 miles of it, with a flat £50 charge further out. If the bedroom is at the top of a traditional tenement stair, tell us when you order so we know what we are carrying up. The rest of the kids divan beds share the same fabric list with different headboards, and the Thornbury is configured here, size, storage, headboard and fabric in that order.
