Table Clock: 36.5 x 7.5 x 25cm, for a shelf or a wall

Table Clock: 36.5 x 7.5 x 25cm, for a shelf or a wall — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Table Clock

View the product

This one is listed as dual purpose, and that is the reason to look at it. The Table Clock measures 36.5 x 7.5 x 25cm, has a mirrored finish with two crushed diamond sides, and the listing says it works as a standalone desk piece or mounted on a wall. Two options from one purchase, which is useful if you have not settled on where it is going. The photographs and the full listing are on the mirrored Table Clock page.

The three figures, and which is which

The listing gives three figures in that order and does not label them. The sensible reading is 36.5cm wide, 7.5cm deep and 25cm tall, because 7.5cm is the only one of the three that makes sense as a depth for something that stands on a shelf. It is still worth confirming with us before you measure a space to the centimetre, and it is the single most useful question to ask about this piece.

On a surface: the 7.5cm is the number that decides it

Take 7.5cm as the depth and the practical consequences follow quickly.

  • Shelf depth. A standard floating shelf is often 15cm to 20cm deep, so the clock sits comfortably with room in front. On a narrow 10cm picture ledge it will fit but with almost nothing to spare, and a mirrored face is not the thing to have overhanging an edge.
  • Height clearance. At 25cm tall it needs more than 25cm of clear air above it. Under a cabinet or a second shelf, measure that gap first.
  • Width on a dressing table. 36.5cm is a substantial run of surface, more than a third of a metre. On a 100cm dressing table it takes a real share of the top, so plan it alongside the trays and bottles rather than as an afterthought.
  • Mantelpiece. The depth suits most mantels, and the width means it will anchor a shorter mantel on its own without needing a pair of candlesticks either side.

On a wall instead

The listing says it can be mounted, but it does not describe how. There is no fixing detail, no weight and no description of the hardware on the back, so before you plan a wall position, ask us what the mounting actually is. If it does go on a wall, a landscape piece 36.5 x 25cm is a different proposition from a round dial: it suits a run above a console or a narrow stretch between two doors, where a ∅54cm circle would not fit at all.

What the listing does not state

Set out plainly, because none of it is there: the movement type and battery size, whether the second hand ticks or sweeps quietly, the weight, the fixing or hanging hardware, and what the crushed diamond detail is actually made from. The finish is described as mirrored and the sides as crushed diamond, which tells you the look and not the material. We would rather say the listing is silent than invent an answer, so send us the question and we will check with the supplier.

What it sits with

If you want the mirrored and crushed diamond look on a larger scale for a wall, the SY910 is listed at 110 x 30cm with a round mirrored dial and a winged mirror panel to each side. For a square mirrored dial on a wall, the SY908 is listed at 50 x 50cm with a teardrop crystal framework, and the round SY907 is the other shape in that pair, listed at ∅50cm with the same teardrop crystal border. Everything else is in Clocks.

Before you order

  • Measure the shelf or table depth and the clear height above it.
  • Mark 36.5cm along the surface and see what it displaces.
  • If it is going on a wall, ask us about the mounting before you commit to a position.
  • Ask about the movement and the current lead time in the same message.

Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. When you have the space measured, order the mirrored Table Clock, or tell us the shelf dimensions and we will confirm the orientation of those three figures for you.
