SY910 Mirrored Wing Clock: how 110 x 30cm hangs on a wall
This guide is about
SY910
The SY910 is the wide one. At 110 x 30cm it is not a clock for an empty wall, it is a clock that fills the space above a sideboard, a console or a bed. A round mirrored dial sits in the centre with a mirrored wing out to each side, and each wing carries a crushed diamond centre. The photographs and the full listing are on the SY910 mirrored wing clock page.
The figures, exactly as listed
| Figure | As listed |
|---|---|
| Size available | 110 x 30cm |
| Dial | Round, mirrored |
| Wings | Two mirrored panels, crushed diamond centres |
The listing gives one pair of figures and does not label them. Read 110cm as the width and 30cm as the height, since that is the only orientation the wings make sense in, but confirm it with us before you drill. Note also that no depth is given at all, so if the piece has to clear a picture rail, a radiator shelf or a deep skirting, ask us for that measurement.
What a 110cm span fits above
Anything hung over furniture wants to sit comfortably inside the width of the piece beneath it rather than match it, so 110cm needs something substantial underneath.
- A sideboard or console. Around 140cm wide and up is the comfortable range. On a 90cm console the clock overhangs visually and the proportion goes wrong.
- Over a bed. A standard double mattress is 135cm wide, so 110cm sits just inside that and centres cleanly, though measure your own headboard, which may be wider. Over a single it is too wide.
- A hallway run. Only 30cm tall, which is why it works where a 54cm round dial would crowd the wall between a coat rail and a cornice.
- Height off the furniture. Hang the centre of the dial roughly 25cm above the top surface. Any lower and the wings start competing with lamps and picture frames.
Two mirrored wings, and the practical consequences
A mirrored surface 110cm across reflects a lot of room. That is the point of it, and it has three consequences worth planning for. First, check what sits opposite: the wings will show it back at you from most of the sofa. Second, mirror shows fingermarks and dust more than a painted dial, so somewhere reachable is better than somewhere you need a ladder for. Third, a piece this wide is more likely to want more than one fixing point, but the listing does not state the fixing, the weight or the hanging hardware, so treat that as a question for us rather than an assumption.
What the listing does not state
Set against what it does tell you, the gaps are worth naming plainly. There is no movement type and no battery size. There is nothing on whether the second hand ticks or sweeps quietly, which matters in a bedroom more than anywhere. There is no weight, no depth, and no description of how the wings join the dial. The crushed diamond detail is named but the listing does not say what it is made from. Ask us any of these before you order and we will check with the supplier.
What it sits with
If 110cm is too much wall, the square SY908 is listed at 50 x 50cm with a teardrop crystal framework and covers the same mirrored look in a smaller footprint. For a shelf or a dressing table rather than a wall, the mirrored Table Clock is listed at 36.5 x 7.5 x 25cm and shares the crushed diamond detailing. If you would rather the focal point were mechanical than reflective, the SY919 is a ∅59cm black and silver dial with cogs that turn on their own mechanism. Everything else is in Clocks.
Before you order
- Measure the furniture below first, then decide. Under about 140cm wide, size down.
- Tape out 110 x 30cm on the wall and check it against the lamps and frames already there.
- Look at what the wings will reflect from your usual seat.
- Ask us about the fixing, the depth and the current lead time together.
Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. When the wall is measured, order the SY910 mirrored wing clock, or send us the width of the piece it is going above and we will tell you whether 110cm is the right span.
