SY6306 (LED): a round vanity mirror and the 11cm that matters — Langham Furniture journal

Most mirrors in this part of the catalogue are given as two figures. SY6306 (LED) is given as three, 51 x 11 x 54cm, and the extra one is the most useful number on the page.

Three figures, and the 11cm

Eleven centimetres is a depth, and a wall-hung flat mirror does not have one of those to speak of. So this piece almost certainly occupies table or shelf depth rather than sitting flush to a wall, which fits the description's account of a vanity mirror. What the listing does not do is label the figures, so confirm two things with us before ordering:

  • Which figure is which. Read as width, depth and height you get a face roughly 51cm across standing about 54cm tall and projecting 11cm, but the order is not stated.
  • Whether the 11cm includes a base or a stand. If the mirror sits on a foot, the footprint it needs on the table may be deeper than the mirror itself.

There is one more thing worth noticing. The description calls this a circular mirror, and 51 and 54 are not the same number. Either the glass is a circle sitting on a base that adds the extra height, or the outline is not a true circle. Ask us which, because it changes how it reads next to anything square.

What 54cm of height does on a dressing table

Seated at a dressing table, your eye is usually somewhere around 110 to 120cm from the floor, and a table top is commonly about 75cm. That leaves roughly 40cm of useful height above the top before the mirror goes above your eye line. A piece standing 54cm tall therefore puts the centre of its glass a comfortable distance above the surface and the top of it a little above your head when seated, which is what you want for doing anything with your hair.

The depth is what costs you. Giving up 11cm of a 40cm deep top leaves under 30cm in front of the mirror, which is enough for a tray and a few bottles but not for a laid-out set of brushes. Measure the top before you order, and if the table is shallow, think about whether a wall-hung piece suits you better.

The lighting the page does not specify

The description says the LED border is integrated and the light sources concealed, with no visible fixtures. Everything you would plan around is missing, so ask us for it:

  • Power. Mains, plug or battery is not recorded. On a dressing table a trailing lead matters, so settle it before delivery.
  • Switching. No switch, touch sensor or remote is described.
  • Colour temperature and dimming. Neither is given. For makeup this is the single most important property of a lit mirror, and the listing does not answer it.
  • Magnification. Nothing says any part of the glass magnifies.
  • Moisture. No rating is recorded, so ask before putting it in a bathroom.

Round, or three panels

The real choice at this size is between light and angles. This mirror gives you a lit border and one view. SY6303 gives you three angled panels at 77 x 55cm with crushed diamond borders and no lighting, and SY6302 is the same arrangement with a plain frame. If you want a lit mirror on the wall rather than the table, the SY1761 Octagon (LED) Wall Mirror is the larger lit option.

Ordering the SY6306

Four photographs on the SY6306 (LED) page show the lit border and the way the mirror stands, and the full Wall Mirrors range sits alongside it. Send us your table depth if you are unsure about the 11cm. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
