SY1701 Wall Mirror: round or rectangular, and which size

SY1701 Wall Mirror: round or rectangular, and which size — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

SY1701 Wall Mirror

View the product

Most mirror listings give you one shape and a choice of scale. This one gives you both shapes. The SY1701 Wall Mirror is offered as two rectangles and two circles, all carrying the same thick crushed diamond border, which makes it one of the more flexible listings in Wall Mirrors and one of the easier ones to order the wrong version of.

Four formats, and the codes beside them

The description lists a code against each size, and those codes are the reason to read the selector carefully rather than quickly.

Listed sizeShapeCode in the listing
80 x 160cmRectangular, the biggest of the fourSY1707
80 x 120cmRectangularSY1701
90cm acrossRound, the larger circleSY1701 Round
80cm acrossRoundSY1703

Note that the same number, SY1701, is used for a rectangle and a circle, so the shape is decided by the size you pick on the page and not by the code. Pick from the size selector on the page and check the figures you have chosen before you order.

Rectangular or round on the same wall

The two rectangles are the ones to use when the mirror has a job: 80 x 160cm is tall enough to dress in front of and becomes the main feature of a wall, while 80 x 120cm is the classic size above a sideboard, a console or a chest of drawers. The circles are decorative first. A 90cm or 80cm disc breaks up a room of straight lines and bounces light down a hall, but at head height it shows your face and shoulders rather than an outfit.

One practical point on the 80 x 160cm: it is longer than most people expect to carry round a tight stair. Measure the route in, not only the wall it is going on.

The thick border, and the band nobody lists

The border is what separates this from the rest of its family. The description calls it a thick crushed diamond border and leaves it there. It does not say how wide that band is, how deep the frame stands off the wall, or what the crushed diamond effect is made from, and it does not say whether the listed sizes are the glass or the outside edge of the frame. Four photographs come with the listing, and if the exact band width decides it for you, ask us and we will measure.

Weight is the figure to ask for

  • No weight is recorded for any of the four, and the 80 x 160cm is a substantial piece of glass. On a stud wall, that is a question to settle before you order rather than after.
  • No fixing method is described. Ask what is on the back and whether anything is supplied.
  • Nothing rates these for a bathroom. A mirrored border and steam is worth a conversation first.
  • Rectangular sizes are given as two figures without stating which is the height, so confirm the orientation if your gap is measured.

Ordering the SY1701

All four formats are on the one SY1701 Wall Mirror page. If you prefer the diamond detail broken into a pattern, the SY1702 Wall Mirror sets it out as squares at 80 x 120cm, and the SY1704 Wall Mirror is the same idea in a thin band across four sizes. For the border with light in it, the SY1760 (LED) Wall Mirror has LEDs concealed in the frame. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
