SG-Lewis Console Table: chrome frame, 1.2m footprint, honest fit guide

SG-Lewis Console Table: chrome frame, 1.2m footprint, honest fit guide — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

SG-Lewis Console Table

View the product

The SG-Lewis Console Table is a 1.2m console with a chrome frame and four sleek contemporary-style legs, listed at 120 x 40 x 75cm. It is the understated option in this group: no two-tone metal, no pedestal, nothing that asks for attention. That makes the decision almost entirely about measurement, so this post is mostly about getting the tape out.

The three figures read as width, depth and height, and the description's own reference to a 1.2m piece supports that. If the table has to land between two fixed points, ask us to confirm the order of the figures first.

Measuring before you order

A console fails on depth far more often than on length. Work in this order:

  1. Depth. Measure the narrowest width of the hall over the skirting, then take off 40cm. Whatever is left is your real walkway, and it has to work with coats on hooks, a buggy, or two people passing.
  2. Skirting. Measure how far the skirting stands out. It holds any console off the wall, so add that figure to the 40cm to know how far the table projects. The listing does not say how close the legs sit to the ends, so check the photographs if a skirting return or a pipe at one end would be in the way.
  3. Length. 120cm is the table alone. Check what sits at each end: architrave, radiator, stair string, meter cupboard.
  4. Height. At 75cm, note any socket or switch the table back will sit in front of, and plan the gap to anything hanging above.

Then tape the 120cm by 40cm footprint onto the floor and live with it for a bit. Furniture that measures correctly can still be in the way, and tape is the cheapest way to find that out.

SG-Lewis or Lewis

The Lewis Console Table is listed with the same 120 x 40 x 75cm size, the same chrome frame, the same four contemporary legs and the same choice of marble or ceramic top. The published descriptions do not separate them beyond the code, AWS-LEWIS099 here against AWS-LEWIS59 there, and the photographs. We are not going to invent a difference: compare the two galleries, and ask us if the detail matters to you and we will put the question to the supplier.

If you want the console to carry more of the room's character, the GS-Lucy Console Table swaps the four legs for a cross base mixing silver and gold, and the Chelsea Console Table uses a round pedestal at the same listed size.

What the listing leaves open

  • Which top arrives. Both marble and ceramic are named, but the page carries no selector, so confirm the surface with us on the order.
  • Weight. Not published. If there is a stair with a turn in it, say so when you order.
  • Assembly. Nothing states whether the legs come fitted or need fixing on.
  • Care. No cleaning instruction is given, and a stone top and a ceramic top are not treated alike.

None of that is a mark against the table. It just means the questions are better asked now than worked out on the doorstep.

Ordering

Compare it against the rest of the console tables before you decide, particularly if your wall is under 120cm, because the shorter consoles here are listed at 85 x 34 x 70cm.

Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. The full gallery on the SG-Lewis Console Table page shows the frame, the leg detail and the top, and we will answer the surface, weight and assembly questions by return.
