This guide is about

Most cladding orders that go wrong go wrong at the edges. The boards arrive, the wall gets covered, and then someone notices that nothing closes the top, the bottom or the corner. Here is the whole list for a wall in the Wall Panel 83C in light brown, with the quantity each pack holds, so one order does the job.

The boards

Six to a pack, 21cm wide and 2.5cm thick, in a choice of two lengths:

  • 290cm boards, covering 3.65m² per pack
  • 180cm boards, covering 2.27m² per pack

The slats are 3.5cm wide with 1.5cm between them. Both coverage figures are the full board width times its length times six, with no deduction at the joints, so round the pack count up.

What else the wall needs

PartSize as listedPer packWhat it does
73/83 Trim 290cm4 x 4 x 290cm10Closes top, bottom and open ends
73/83 Corner Trim 290cm4 x 4 x 290cm3Closes an external angle
Outdoor panel brackets2 x 5cm50Holds the boards to the wall

All three are named on the 83C listing and all three are sold separately. The bracket listing says it slides onto the panel lip and takes one screw; it does not give a spacing, so the quantity you need is a question for the shop and not something the page answers.

The light brown trim is listed for this panel alone

The trim's finish options are specific about what fits what, and light brown is one of the narrowest: it names panel 83C and no other, as the walnut option names only the 73T. Grey, dark brown, black and oak each name three panels. The corner trim does list a light brown. Nothing is wrong with that, but it does mean the 73/83 trim you buy in light brown is tied to this one panel, so if you later extend the wall in another series you will be back to the shop asking which trim closes it. Worth knowing on a job that might grow.

Counting it up

  1. Measure the wall and work out the panel packs from the coverage figures above.
  2. Measure the top edge, the bottom edge and every open vertical end in metres. Divide by 2.9 for the number of trim lengths, then by 10 for packs.
  3. Count the external corners, divide by the 2.9m length, then by 3 for packs.
  4. Ask about brackets, and order them in the same go.

Ask about these

The description says the panels are UV resistant and that the trims are sold separately to finish the installation. It does not state a weight, a fire rating, a fixing centre or what the boards may be fixed to, and it does not say whether the light brown of the panel and the light brown of the corner trim are matched to each other. None of that is a reason not to buy; all of it is worth a question first. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.

The 83D in dark brown is the same board in a deeper tone if you are undecided. Otherwise the Wall Panel 83C light brown outdoor panel page has the photographs, and the outdoor wall panel range holds the rest of the series.
