Sandhurst Kids Upholstered Bed: Diagonal Channels at Child Scale
This guide is about
Sandhurst Kids Upholstered Bed
Most children's beds announce themselves. The Sandhurst does not. Its headboard is a run of diagonal channels worked corner to corner, and the same channelling repeats along the side rail, so the pattern carries round the bed instead of stopping where the board ends. It is a grown-up detail at a child's scale, which is why it tends to outlast the bedding it was bought with. The Sandhurst kids upholstered bed listing carries the full gallery and the configurator if you want to see the channelling close up.
A frame, not a storage box
The Sandhurst is built as a frame rather than a divan. The mattress drops down inside an upholstered surround, and the side rails and foot end are finished in the same cloth as the headboard. There is no storage in the base. That is a decision rather than an omission: it keeps the whole bed low, which helps in a small room and helps more if a younger child is still getting in and out unaided.
Because every cloth-covered part is cut from the one fabric you choose, the bed arrives as a single object. A headboard bought separately to match an existing frame almost never quite does, and daylight finds the join every time.
Three sizes, and one length
The figures below are the finished bed measured at its widest point, not the mattress:
- Single 3FT - 109 cm wide by 212 cm long
- Small Double 4FT - 139 cm wide by 212 cm long
- Double 4FT6 - 155 cm wide by 212 cm long
Two things follow from that list. First, the length never changes: all three are 212 cm, so if you are weighing up a single against a small double, only the wall width is in question. Second, the outside width is appreciably more than the mattress width, because the mattress sits down inside the surround. A 3FT single Sandhurst needs 109 cm of wall, not the 3FT its name suggests. That gap is where most measuring mistakes happen in a child's room.
Measure the wall, then measure the route: the door, the turn at the top of the stairs, and the swing of any wardrobe door that has to open beside the bed. There is a full size guide on the product page with the bed drawn from the side and from above, every size to the same scale.
Twenty-six colourways
The Sandhurst is upholstered to order in any of 26 colourways, and the headboard, base and sides all take the cloth you pick. The range runs from quiet to loud: Almond Coniston and Cream Chenille at one end, Pink Plush Velvet and Emerald Coniston at the other, with Charcoal Coniston, Seal Grey Naples and Steel Plush Velvet covering the ground between. For a child's room it is worth thinking about the cloth as much as the colour. A velvet shows a hand print and recovers when you brush it; a flatter weave hides marks but does not catch the light the way the channelling is designed to.
If you are choosing between two shades on a screen, ask us for a sample rather than guessing. Screens are unreliable about greys in particular.
What the listing does and does not tell you
The bed is specified with a tall headboard. Mattresses are sold separately, which is deliberate: a child's mattress is a tension and a depth decision of its own, and pairing it with the frame afterwards means you are not stuck with whatever came in the box. If you need something the listing does not state, such as fabric composition or how the surround is assembled in the room, ask us before you order rather than working from an assumption.
Buying it from Glasgow
We sell beds in Glasgow from our own store, and delivery is free within 50 miles of it. Beyond that radius there is a flat £50 charge, which covers most of the central belt and a good way past it. Customers buying beds in Scotland from further out, the north east or the Borders, pay that same £50 rather than a figure that climbs with the mileage.
The Sandhurst sits alongside the rest of our kids upholstered beds, which share the same fabric list but differ in headboard and in whether the base stores anything. If the channelled headboard is the one you keep coming back to, the Sandhurst frame is configured here, size and fabric first.
