Roma Mirrored Furniture: What to Check Before You Buy
Several different things in this catalogue are called Roma, and knowing which is which saves a wasted journey. Most of them — the dressing table, the sideboards, the TV units, the coffee tables, the pedestals — sit in our mirrored furniture range. Alongside them are five velvet and PU dining chairs, three ceramic-topped tables listed as BK-Roma, an upholstered bed frame and a two-seater sofa. They share a name, not a finish, so nothing here is designed to match anything else by default. This guide takes the mirrored pieces first, because that is what people come in for, then the rest.
What is in the Roma mirrored range
- Bedroom: Dressing Table (110 x 45 x 85cm), 4 Drawer Dresser (90 x 45 x 85cm), Bedside Table – 3 Drawers (46 x 37 x 67cm) and Mirrored Stool (41 x 33 x 42cm).
- Living room: TV Unit 120cm (120 x 45 x 55cm), Corner TV Unit (100 x 45 x 55cm), TV Unit With Heater (150 x 44 x 56cm), Coffee Table and Coffee Table (KD) (both 100 x 60 x 47cm), Nest of Tables (55 x 45 x 45cm, 43 x 45 x 39cm and 31 x 45 x 33cm), Bookcase (80 x 30 x 120cm) and High Bookcase (76 x 50 x 188cm).
- Storage: the 2 Door 2 Drawer Small Sideboard (100 x 40 x 80cm), the 2 Door 3 Drawer Large Sideboard (120 x 40 x 80cm), and two pedestals — Pedestal 55 (30.5 x 30.5 x 71cm) and Pedestal 33 (49 x 49 x 69cm).
Two things in the names worth checking
The pedestals are the trap. Pedestal 55 is the narrow one, 30.5cm square and 71cm high; Pedestal 33 is the wider one, 49cm square and 69cm high. The number in the name is not the width, so order by the dimensions rather than by the name — particularly if the piece has to fit a specific gap beside a bed or a chair.
The other is the pair of coffee tables. The Roma Coffee Table and the Roma Coffee Table (KD) are listed at the same 100 x 60 x 47cm. "KD" is the trade abbreviation for knock-down; if it matters to you which form arrives, ask us to confirm before you order.
Living with reflective furniture
A mirrored surface shows you two things a wooden one does not: whatever stands in front of it, and every mark left on it. Both are easy to plan for and harder to fix afterwards.
- Look at what it will face. A mirrored sideboard reflects the opposite wall and the floor in front of it. In a dark room or a narrow hall that is the point — it passes light along. Facing a cluttered corner, rather less so.
- See it in daylight and under a lamp. Reflective fronts read completely differently in the two, and a photograph of a mirrored piece largely shows the room it was photographed in. This is the one category where a screen tells you least.
- Fingerprints land at hand height. Drawer fronts on a bedside and a dressing table get touched constantly, so expect to keep a cloth nearby. A TV unit at 55cm high is handled far less.
- Keep edges out of the traffic. Decide the final position and the route in before it arrives, rather than shuffling it across a room afterwards, and avoid putting a corner where a hip or a vacuum cleaner will meet it.
- A flat floor matters. Any tall piece wants level ground, and the 188cm High Bookcase more than most. Check it against a spirit level before you load it.
Three TV units, one of them heated
The Roma TV Unit With Heater is the widest at 150 x 44 x 56cm and, as the name says, it has a heater built in. That makes the power point part of the plan rather than an afterthought: work out where the socket is before you settle on a wall, and ask us for the electrical details if you need them. The other two are the plain 120cm unit (120 x 45 x 55cm) and the Corner TV Unit (100 x 45 x 55cm), which takes the diagonal across a corner instead of a run of wall — useful in a small room where no wall is free, though it claims more of the corner than its 100cm width suggests. All three stand at around 55cm, and all three are 44–45cm deep. Measure the feet of your television against that depth; a stand's feet often sit near the outside edges of the panel, so the screen size tells you nothing useful.
The Roma pieces that are not mirrored
Dining chairs. Five listings, all of them 64 x 56 x 97cm and all with the same hexagonal stitched back. What changes is the covering, the legs and the detail on the back.
| Chair | Covering | Legs and detail |
|---|---|---|
| Roma Chair (Lion Knocker) | Shimmer velvet — Silver Grey, Dark Grey, Shiny Mink | Chrome legs, lion knocker |
| G-Roma Chair (Lion Knocker) | Shimmer velvet — Silver Grey, Shiny Mink | Gold legs, lion knocker |
| Roma Chair (No Knocker) | Velvet — Dark Grey | Chrome legs, no knocker |
| Roma PU Chair (Lion Knocker) | Polyurethane, matte finish | Chrome legs, lion knocker |
| Roma PU Chair (Ring Knocker) | Polyurethane — Light Grey, Dark Grey | Chrome legs, ring knocker |
The practical decision is the covering. Velvet gives you the texture and the sheen; PU is the one you can wipe down, which tends to settle it if children eat at the table. The knocker is the ring or lion detail on the back of the chair, and the no-knocker version is the plainest of the five — worth knowing if you want the shape without the ornament.
BK-Roma tables. Three pieces with ceramic tops carried on two substantial legs rather than four corner legs: the Dining Table (1.8m) at 180 x 90 x 75cm, the Coffee Table at 120 x 60 x 45cm and the Lamp Table at 50 x 50 x 55cm. Two legs means the sides are clear for chairs, which is the real advantage. Put the Roma chairs above with it, at 64cm wide, and two a side on the 1.8m table sit comfortably; a third along the same side does not fit, so the ends do that work.
Bed frame. The Roma Single/Double/King Size Bed is upholstered in textured grey velvet with the headboard included, and is listed in three sizes: single 203 x 104cm, double 203 x 149cm and king 213 x 164cm, with a 120cm headboard height. Mattresses are sold separately, so the support is your choice. Plan the floor around those frame figures rather than the mattress size, and keep 60–75cm clear along a long side to walk and to make the bed.
Sofa. The Roma Grey & Cream Mix Sofa is a compact two-seater in a mixed grey and cream fabric, and its listing notes that it arrives flat-packed — the part worth knowing if the way in involves a tight hall or a turn on a stair.
Mirrored furniture in Glasgow
Reflective furniture is the hardest kind to judge from a screen, for the reason above: the photograph shows a reflection of somewhere else. If you are considering a Roma dressing table or a mirrored sideboard, it is worth coming to the store in Glasgow and standing in front of one, in daylight, before you decide. Delivery is free within 50 miles of the store and £50 beyond it.
Before you order
- The dimensions rather than the number in the name — especially the two pedestals.
- What the piece will stand opposite, and so what it will reflect.
- The socket position, if you are looking at the heated TV unit.
- Your television's feet against the 44–45cm depth of the TV units.
- Frame size, not mattress size, if you are measuring for the bed.
- The narrowest point on the route in, and the final position before delivery.
