Roma Chair: 64cm wide, 97cm tall, and how many fit a table
This guide is about
Roma Chair (Lion Knocker/Chrome Legs)
The Roma Chair (Lion Knocker/Chrome Legs) is listed at 64 x 56 x 97cm, which puts it among the broader and taller dining chairs here. A 64cm chair is a different seating plan from a 54cm one on the same table, so the figures are worth working through before you choose the finish. The listing also gives shimmer velvet, a hexagonal stitched back, polished chrome legs and an ornate lion knocker.
The figures, exactly as listed
| Listed as | Figure |
|---|---|
| Size available | 64 x 56 x 97cm |
| Covering | Shimmer velvet |
| Back | Hexagonal stitched, with a lion knocker |
| Legs | Polished chrome |
| Finishes | Silver Grey, Dark Grey, Shiny Mink |
| Code | AWS-CHAIR28 |
97cm has to be the overall height. The other two read as 64cm wide and 56cm deep, but the listing does not label them and gives no seat height, so confirm both if the chair has to clear a table apron. The three finishes are not all priced the same on the product page, so choose the finish before you compare.
64cm wide: do the arithmetic first
Width is the measurement that decides how many places you get, and this is a broad chair. Leave a few centimetres between chairs so one can be pulled out without moving its neighbour, and keep clear of the table legs.
| Length of table edge | Roma at 64cm | A 55cm chair, for comparison |
|---|---|---|
| 1.2m | 1 | 2, tight |
| 1.6m | 2 | 2 |
| 1.8m | 2, comfortably | 3, snug |
| 2.4m | 3 | 4 |
| 3.0m | 4 | 5 |
If you need six round a 1.8m table, this is not the chair; if you want four that look substantial round the same table, it is. Behind the table, allow roughly the 56cm depth again to push a chair back and stand, and nearer a metre where someone walks past an occupied seat.
Shimmer velvet, and what the listing does not say about it
A shimmer finish reads differently depending on where the light comes from, which is why photographs of this sort of covering never quite match the room. Under a pendant directly above the table the backs will catch the light along their top edge; under wall lighting the stitched hexagons do the work instead. Shiny Mink is the warm option of the three and the one most affected by the light you have; Silver Grey and Dark Grey are the steadier pair.
Beyond the word velvet the page gives nothing: no fibre content, no cleaning code, no rub test, nothing on whether the covering can be cleaned at home. Ask for care instructions before you put a pale finish round a table used every day.
The four Roma chairs, and which is which
The same 64 x 56 x 97cm shell is listed four times on chrome legs, with different covering and back detail. The decision is only ever those two things.
| Chair | Covering | Back detail |
|---|---|---|
| This one | Shimmer velvet | Lion knocker |
| Roma Chair (No Knocker/Chrome Legs) | Velvet | Hexagonal stitched, no knocker |
| Roma PU Chair (Lion Knocker/Chrome Legs) | Polyurethane | Lion knocker |
| Roma PU Chair (Ring Knocker/Chrome Legs) | Polyurethane | Ring knocker |
There is also the G-Roma Chair (Lion Knocker/Gold Legs) if you would rather have gold than chrome under it.
What the listing does not state
- Seat height, seat width and seat depth.
- Frame material and filling.
- Velvet composition and any care code.
- Any weight limit.
- Whether the chair arrives built, and whether it is supplied singly or in pairs.
