Roma Large Sideboard: 120cm of wall and what the third drawer buys
This guide is about
Roma 2 Door 3 Drawer Large Sideboard
The Roma 2 Door 3 Drawer Large Sideboard is listed at 120 x 40 x 80cm. Beyond that measurement and the door and drawer count in its name, the listing records nothing, so this post deals with what decides the purchase: whether 120cm fits, and what 40cm of depth will take.
The figures, exactly as listed
| Item | As the listing gives it |
|---|---|
| Size available | 120 x 40 x 80cm |
| Doors | Two |
| Drawers | Three |
| Product code | AWS-ROMA-12 |
| Category | Mirrored Furniture |
The dimensions are unlabelled. Read as a sideboard they are 120cm along the wall, 40cm out into the room and 80cm to the top. Ask us to confirm it if your space only works one way round.
What 120cm needs from a wall
More than 120cm, and the extra comes from the things people forget to measure.
- Skirting. A flat-backed piece stands off the wall by the thickness of the skirting board, pushing the front a couple of centimetres further into the room. In an alcove, that also means the top of the recess may be narrower than the bottom.
- Door swings. The listing does not say how the doors and drawers are arranged, so it gives you neither the width of a door nor whether the doors are hinged or sliding. Ask us for that, and open any nearby room door fully to see where its leading edge lands.
- Sockets and radiators. A socket behind a sideboard is a socket you cannot use. Measure the clear run of wall between those fixtures rather than the wall itself.
- The route in. 120cm will not turn a tight hall corner the way a bedside table does. Measure the doorway and the turn at the foot of the stairs, and have a second person at the door.
40cm of depth, honestly
40cm is shallow for a sideboard and that is a genuine trade-off. It takes little floor, which is why it works in a room that doubles as a walkway, and nothing disappears at the back. But dinner plates at 27cm fit while large platters may not, and a record player, a printer or a deep box file needs measuring rather than assuming. The listing does not give the drawer travel either. Allow around 35cm for it on a 40cm carcase, which makes roughly 75cm of working space in front.
Is the bigger one the right one?
The family offers a shorter version at the same height and depth, so the decision comes down to two things.
| Piece | As listed | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| This one, two doors and three drawers | 120 x 40 x 80cm | An extra drawer and 20cm more top |
| Roma 2 Door 2 Drawer Small Sideboard | 100 x 40 x 80cm | Fits a metre of wall, two drawers |
Take the 120cm if you are storing flat things in quantity, cutlery, linen, paperwork, and the wall has the room. Take the 100cm if the wall sits between two doorways, where 20cm decides it.
What the listing does not say, and what it works with
No material, no finish, no weight, no internal shelf arrangement, nothing about whether the drawers are soft-closing and nothing about assembly. It is filed in Mirrored Furniture with four photographs on the product page, which show the finish better than any description here. Ask us to confirm anything your decision rests on.
At the same 120cm length, the Roma TV Unit 120cm repeats the same 120cm line for a television, though its height is not given here, and the Roma Bookcase at 80 x 30 x 120cm gives you height beside it without adding depth.
