Ravenscroft Ottoman Divan Bed

View the product

Not every bedroom wants a headboard that talks. The Ravenscroft Ottoman Divan Bed is built for the other kind of room: an almost plain panel, kept from being dull by a small stack of short horizontal pleats in each top corner, over a base that is entirely given over to storage.

Two corners of detail

The pleats are the whole design. Stacked short and horizontal in each top corner of the headboard, they put a little structure where the eye lands first and leave the centre of the panel clear. The effect is that the bed looks finished without competing with wallpaper, art, a bay window or a fitted wardrobe. If you have already decided what the feature in the room is going to be, this is the headboard that lets it be the feature.

Like the rest of the range it is upholstered in the same cloth as the base and sides, so the bed is one piece rather than a board and a base in approximate agreement.

Storage: the whole footprint, lifted from the side

The base lifts as one. Gas struts carry the mattress, the top swings up from the side, and what opens is the full footprint of the bed as a single lined compartment. No drawers, no runners, nothing that needs clear floor in front of it, and nothing that has to clear a wall or a wardrobe door. It is the most storage available under a bed of this size, and it stays usable with the bed pushed into a corner.

If you are weighing this against drawer divan beds, the comparison is simple. Drawers lose you the depth of the drawer box and the runner, and they need floor space to open into. A side-lifting ottoman loses you nothing and needs none. What it does need is height above the bed, which is the point below.

Every size, measured finished

  • Small Single 2FT6: 75 cm wide by 191.5 cm long
  • Single 3FT: 90 cm wide by 191.5 cm long
  • Small Double 4FT: 120 cm wide by 191.5 cm long
  • Double 4FT6: 135 cm wide by 191.5 cm long
  • King 5FT: 150 cm wide by 200 cm long
  • Super King 6FT: 184 cm wide by 200 cm long

Measured across the finished bed at its widest point. At 191.5 cm long up to Double, and 200 cm in the two larger sizes, the Ravenscroft is compact for what it holds, which is the advantage of divan construction over an upholstered surround. There is a full size guide on the product page showing the bed from the side and from above with every size to the same scale.

Before ordering, measure the height from the mattress top to whatever is above the bed. Sloping ceilings, dormers, shelves and tall headboards on adjacent furniture all interact with a lid that swings upward, and the published dimensions only describe the bed closed. Send us the figure and we will check it with you.

Headboard choice

The option listed on the product page is a 54 inch floor-standing headboard, which takes its weight through its own legs rather than through the base. Check the page itself for what is open on the size you want, since the configurator is the accurate answer.

Cloth: 26 colourways

Upholstered to order in any of 26 colourways, made up of eight plush velvets, seven Coniston shades, six Naples, four chenilles and one silver Linoso. Every part finished in cloth is done in the fabric you choose. A near-plain headboard is the hardest test of a cloth, because there is no seam pattern to carry it, so this is the bed where it is most worth ordering samples and looking at them on the wall the bed will stand against.

Where to go from here

The Ravenscroft lives with the other ottoman divan beds in our range; the upholstered beds are the frames to compare if you do not need the storage and want a lower, shaped outline instead. Anyone shopping for beds in Glasgow is welcome to see the cloths and the lifting action in the showroom before deciding, which is a good deal more use than a photograph.

Each one is made to order in your size and cloth. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond it, and mattresses are sold separately so you can match the tension to the sleeper. Sizes, cloths and the size guide are all on the Ravenscroft page.
