The margin in the middle column is not padding. A mirror hung tight to a switch plate, an architrave or the end of a radiator shelf looks like it was bought for a different wall.
Match it to the furniture, not the room
Most mirrors this shape end up above something. The piece below sets the size more than the wall does: keep the mirror narrower than the furniture and the two read as one arrangement. On that basis a 120cm sideboard takes the 80cm face comfortably, a 100cm console suits the 70cm, and anything narrower is 60cm territory. Leave a hand's width of wall between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the mirror, and if there is a wall light either side, set the mirror out from the centre point between them rather than the centre of the wall.
Which of the two figures is the height
Each size is written as two numbers with no orientation given. Read the second as the height and the mirrors are tall; read it as the width and they are long and low. Hall mirrors of this sort are usually hung tall, but if you are fitting one into a measured gap, ask us to confirm which way round the glass is before you order.
