Wall Panel 01D Dark Oak: matching the wood you already own

Wall Panel 01D Dark Oak: matching the wood you already own — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 01D - Dark Oak - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)

View the product

Wall Panel 01D in dark oak is a felt-backed slat panel the shop supplies: HDF slats, four panels to a pack, each 60 x 240 x 1.5cm, with 5.76m² of coverage. The panel itself is straightforward. The part people get wrong is the match, because a dark oak wall almost always has to live with a floor, a door or a wardrobe that is already in the room.

The figures, as listed

FigureAs the listing gives it
Panel size60 x 240 x 1.5cm per panel
Pieces per pack4
Area covered5.76m² per pack
Slat width2.5cm
Space between slats1.5cm

Four panels at 0.6m by 2.4m is 5.76m², so the coverage agrees with the panel size. Read the size as width, length and thickness, and confirm with the shop if your fixing or your socket depths turn on that 1.5cm.

Judging the match honestly

"Dark oak" is a description, not a reference. It will not be the same dark oak as your floor, your internal doors or a wardrobe bought elsewhere, and trying to make two different dark oaks match usually looks worse than deliberately not matching.

What actually works:

  • Contrast or commit. Either the panelled wall is clearly the darkest thing in the room, or it is close enough to the floor that the two read as one material. The uncomfortable zone is a near-miss.
  • Look at it vertically. Hold the sample up against the wall, not flat on the floor. Wood-effect finishes shift noticeably with the angle of light, and a wall sees light quite differently from a floor.
  • Check it twice a day. Daylight and a warm bulb will give you two different answers. Judge it in the light the room is actually used in.
  • Mind the felt. On a slatted panel the backing shows in every 1.5cm gap. The listing does not state the felt colour, so ask, because on a dark oak panel it is what makes the lines read as deep shadow or as a grey stripe.

Ordering the right number of packs

Measure the wall's greatest width and greatest height, multiply in metres, divide by 5.76. A 3m by 2.4m wall is 7.2m², so two packs. A 2.4m alcove at 2.4m high is exactly one pack with nothing spare, which is tighter than it sounds once you allow for a mis-cut.

Buy the whole wall in one order. No listing here promises colour consistency between production batches, and on a wood-effect finish a batch difference across a single wall is obvious. Add the Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic that the listing names if an end of the run or the top of the panels will be on show; it is the piece most often forgotten at the point of ordering and the hardest to improvise later.

What the listing does not cover

Stated plainly so you can ask: there is no fire rating, no moisture rating, no fixing method, no guidance on ceiling use, and no cleaning instruction. The description refers to absorbing sound and improving room acoustics but gives no measured absorption figure of any kind, so do not quote it into a specification without first asking the shop whether the manufacturer publishes any test data. The shop does supply adhesive for wall panels, but this product's listing does not name it as the recommended fixing, so check before you add it to the order.

The other dark woods in the range

Worth comparing side by side, because photographs of dark finishes are the least reliable: 04D Dark Oak is the other slatted dark wood, with its own slat and gap figures on its own page. If you want the dark wood look without the slats and without the depth, 05B Dark Oak PVC is a flat panel instead. And 01A in natural oak is this identical panel in the lighter tone, which is the sensible comparison if the room is small. The whole range is in Slat & Acoustic Panels.

Ask for a sample first, then order from the Wall Panel 01D - Dark Oak - Acoustic page, where the photographs and specification sit and the shop can confirm the trim and the current lead time. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
