Wall Panel 01A Natural Oak: slat spacing, coverage and fit — Langham Furniture journal

This guide is about

Wall Panel 01A - Natural Oak - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)

View the product

Wall Panel 01A in natural oak is the slatted acoustic panel the shop supplies in natural oak: HDF slats on a felt backing, four panels to a pack. The listing is unusually specific about dimensions, which means you can plan a wall properly from it instead of ordering and hoping.

The figures, exactly as listed

FigureAs the listing gives it
Panel size60 x 240 x 1.5cm per panel
Pieces per pack4
Area covered5.76m² per pack
Slat width2.5cm
Space between slats1.5cm
ConstructionHDF slats with a felt backing
Named trimWall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic

The numbers are consistent: four panels 0.6m wide by 2.4m tall is 5.76m². Read the panel size as width, length and thickness. The slat and gap figures add to a 4cm repeat, so a 60cm panel works out at 15 slats across. That is arithmetic rather than a figure the listing states, and the slat at each edge may be cut differently to let panels sit together, so confirm it with the shop if the count matters to your setting-out.

How many packs for your wall

Measure the width at skirting height and again at the ceiling, and measure the height at both ends. Take the greater of each. Multiply them in metres and divide by 5.76.

  • A 2.4m wide alcove at 2.4m high is 5.76m² and takes exactly one pack, with nothing spare.
  • A 3.6m wall at 2.4m high is 8.64m²: two packs covers it with two panels left over.
  • Walls shorter than 2.4m mean cutting every panel to length. That is normal, but it is also where the waste goes, so measure the drop before you count packs.

Order a whole wall in one go. Felt and timber-effect finishes can vary between production batches and no listing here promises otherwise.

Measuring and planning before you cut

A slatted panel is forgiving in one direction and unforgiving in the other. A cut along the length, through the felt between two slats, disappears. A cut across the top or bottom is visible, so decide where the panel meets the ceiling or a coving before you start rather than after.

Two things worth doing first:

  1. Mark your socket, switch and TV bracket positions on the bare wall and set the panel joints so a cut-out does not land on a joint.
  2. Work out which end of the wall is seen first from the door. Start your full panels there and put the narrow made-up panel in the far corner.

The listing names the Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic as the matching trim. It is the piece that closes the exposed end of a run and the top edge where the slats stop, and it is easy to forget at the point of ordering.

What the listing does not say

The description talks about absorbing sound and reducing noise, which is what a felt-backed slat panel is for, but no measured figure is given. There is no absorption class, no NRC value and no frequency data, so ask the shop before you rely on it for a studio or an office you are being paid to treat. Also absent: a fire rating, a moisture rating, the felt colour, the recommended fixing method, and whether the panel can be used on a ceiling. The shop supplies adhesive for wall panels, but this listing does not name it as the fixing, so confirm it rather than assume.

What to compare it against

If you like the oak but want a different slat rhythm, 17A Oak in the wide slat acoustic version is the same length and pack count with a broader slat; check its slat and gap figures on its own page, as they differ from these. For a quieter, cooler room, 01B in light grey is this same panel in grey, and 01D in dark oak is the deeper tone. The full range is in Slat & Acoustic Panels.

When your measurements are on paper, the photographs and specification sit on the Wall Panel 01A - Natural Oak - Acoustic page, and the shop can confirm the trim, the fixing and the current lead time. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
