Wall Panel 05A Oak PVC: coverage, thickness and trim choices

Not every panelled wall wants slats. Wall Panel 05A - Oak - PVC is a flat oak-effect PVC panel with a tongue and groove joint, four panels to a pack at 60 x 240 x 0.7cm each and 5.76m² of cover. At 0.7cm it is less than half the thickness of the felt-backed slat panels in the same range, and that single figure decides most of the fitting detail.

The figures, exactly as listed

Read the panel size as width, height and thickness, with the 240cm matching the height in the product name. The listing describes the panels as moisture-resistant and easy to clean, and suggests kitchens, bathrooms and living areas.

What 0.7cm buys you

• It fits where slats do not. Behind a door that opens flat against the wall, inside a shallow alcove, or up to an existing architrave, 7mm is often the difference between panelling the wall and re-trimming the room.
• The skirting usually stays. A 7mm panel landing on top of a skirting board looks intentional; a 15mm or 17mm slat panel generally does not.
• It needs a flat wall. A thin flat sheet follows whatever is behind it, and a flat face shows a hollow or a bow that a slatted one can break up. Check the wall with a long straight edge and make good first.
• No acoustic claim. There is no felt backing here and the listing makes no sound absorption claim for it. If noise is the reason you are panelling, you want the felt-backed slat lines instead.

Coverage and trims

Four 60cm panels cover 2.4m of wall at full height, same as the slat packs.

The trims matter more on a flat panel than on slats, because every edge is a visible line. The listing names three, each 300cm long and ten to a pack: an end strip, a corner strip and an I strip. It does not say where each one is meant to go, so send us a sketch of the wall with your edges, returns and joins marked and ask which strip covers which. All three are offered in black, gold or silver and are separate lines, so count your edges and ask for them with the panels. Pick one metal colour and stay with it across the room.

PVC or a slat panel

Decide on function first. If the wall is in a kitchen or a bathroom and you want a wipeable surface, this is the line. If the wall is in a living room or an office and the problem is echo, the felt-backed slat panels are the ones making an absorption claim: Wall Panel 01A - Natural Oak - Acoustic is the closest oak in that style. Within the PVC line itself, Wall Panel 05B - Dark Oak - PVC is the darker wood effect at the same 60 x 240 x 0.7cm, and Wall Panel 05C - Grey - PVC is the grey, also listed as a wood-effect finish rather than a plain colour, so ask to see it if you want grey without the grain.

What the listing does not state, and what to order with it

• No fire classification, which is worth asking about for a kitchen wall near a hob.
• Nothing about suitability inside a shower enclosure or in direct contact with water, as opposed to a splash-prone room.
• No fixing method. Whether this thickness is adhesive-fixed or pinned, and onto what, is a question for us.
• No detail on how the wood effect is applied, or whether cut edges can be dressed.
