Wall Panel 01E Black Acoustic: coverage, slats and contrast
This guide is about
Wall Panel 01E - Black - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)
Black is the finish people choose when they want a wall to stop being a wall. Behind a television it swallows the bezel; behind a bed it frames everything in front of it. Wall Panel 01E - Black - Acoustic is four panels to a pack, each 60 x 240 x 1.5cm, listed as covering 5.76m². It is also the finish least forgiving of a rushed edge detail, so plan the whole wall before ordering.
The figures, exactly as listed
| Listed as | Figure |
|---|---|
| Panel size | 60 x 240 x 1.5cm per panel |
| Pieces per pack | 4 |
| Area covered | 5.76m² per pack |
| Slat width | 2.5cm |
| Space between slats | 1.5cm |
| Construction | HDF slats on a felt backing |
| Trim named | Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic |
| Code | AWS-WP016 |
Read that as width, height and thickness, the 240cm matching the height in the product name. The slat and gap repeat every 4cm, giving 15 slats across a 60cm panel, which is arithmetic from the listed figures rather than a count the listing supplies. Note too that the listing describes a flat slat panel and makes no claim about bending the panel to a curve, so do not plan a curved wall or a rounded return on this line without asking us first.
How many packs, and where the cut goes
Four panels at 60cm cover 2.4m of wall width at full height.
| Wall width | Panels at 60cm | Packs |
|---|---|---|
| 1.2m (chimney breast) | 2 | 1 |
| 1.8m | 3 | 1 |
| 2.4m | 4 | 1 |
| 3.6m | 6 | 2 |
| 4.8m | 8 | 2 |
On black, a part-width panel in the middle of a run shows up because the slat rhythm breaks. Start full-width from the most visible corner and let the cut finish behind the door, or split the difference and cut both ends equally so the wall reads as symmetrical.
What black does to everything around it
- Woodwork. White skirting, architrave and coving become the brightest thing in the room. Either panel down to the skirting and keep the line dead level, or repaint the woodwork darker so the slats are what you see.
- Sockets and plates. A white face plate on a black slatted wall is unmissable. Decide on the plate colour and position before fitting, not after.
- Screens. If a television is going on this wall, run the cable route and the bracket positions out on paper first. Drilling a bracket through a slat edge is a repair you cannot hide on black.
- Light. Black absorbs the light the room gives it, so a single central pendant will leave the wall flat. Light it from the side or the front.
The other blacks and the half step down
There are two further black slat panels in the range worth comparing in the flesh: Wall Panel 15E - Black - Acoustic and Wall Panel 17E - Black - Wide Slat Acoustic, the second with fewer, broader slats across the same width, which reads calmer on a big wall. If black turns out to be too much for the room, Wall Panel 01C - Dark Grey - Acoustic is the same format and slat figures in a softer tone.
What the listing does not state, and what to order with it
- No sound absorption figure. The felt backing is described as absorbing sound and reducing noise transmission, but no coefficient or rating is quoted, so ask before using it to meet an acoustic requirement.
- The felt colour between the slats.
- No fire classification.
- No fixing method or approved background.
- Nothing about bending or forming the panel.
