Wall Panel 03A Oak: what the wavy acoustic profile changes
This guide is about
Wall Panel 03A - Oak - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)
Most slat panels are flat-faced strips on felt. The 03 profile is not: the listing describes a wavy design that adds visual depth, and the panel is 1.7cm thick rather than the 1.5cm of the plainer lines. Wall Panel 03A - Oak - Acoustic comes four panels to a pack, each 60 x 240cm, listed at 5.76m² of cover. The extra 2mm and the curved face both have consequences on site, which is what this post is about.
The figures, exactly as listed
| Listed as | Figure |
|---|---|
| Panel size | 60 x 240 x 1.7cm per panel |
| Pieces per pack | 4 |
| Area covered | 5.76m² per pack |
| Slat width | 2.5cm |
| Construction | HDF slat material with a felt backing |
| Profile | Wavy |
| Trim named | Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic |
| Code | AWS-WP032 |
Read the panel size as width, height and thickness, the 240cm matching the height in the name. Note what is missing: the listing gives the slat width but no figure for the space between slats, so the number of slats across a panel cannot be worked out from the data. If your layout depends on an exact repeat, ask us to measure a panel before you order.
What the wavy profile actually changes
- Shadow. A curved face catches light across its whole width rather than only at the gap, so the wall changes through the day instead of reading as fixed stripes.
- Thickness. At 1.7cm the panel stands further off the wall than the flat lines. Check your architraves, skirtings and socket boxes against that figure, not against 1.5cm.
- Mixing profiles. Because the thickness differs, a 03 panel and a flat 01 panel do not finish flush where they meet. Keep one profile per wall, or plan a deliberate shadow gap at the change.
- Cutting. A curved face is less forgiving of a ragged cut than a flat one, because the eye follows the curve to the edge. Order the trim.
How many packs the wall takes
Four 60cm panels cover 2.4m of wall width at full height.
| Wall width | Panels at 60cm | Packs |
|---|---|---|
| 1.8m | 3 | 1 |
| 2.4m | 4 | 1 |
| 3.0m | 5 | 2 |
| 3.6m | 6 | 2 |
| 4.8m | 8 | 2 |
Measure the wall at three heights and work from the smallest. Panel height is 240cm, so a taller wall needs either a horizontal joint or a different panel, and that is a conversation to have before you order.
The rest of the 03 profile, and the flat alternative
The same wavy profile comes in Wall Panel 03C - Dark Grey - Acoustic and Wall Panel 03D - Dark Oak - Acoustic, both on the same 1.7cm thickness, so they can be mixed on adjoining walls without a step at the corner. If the wave turns out to be more than the room wants, the flat oak equivalent is Wall Panel 01A - Natural Oak - Acoustic, which is 1.5cm thick and quotes both a slat width and a gap.
What the listing does not state, and what to order with it
- No sound absorption figure. The felt backing is described as absorbing sound and improving room acoustics, with no coefficient or rating given.
- No space between slats, as above.
- No felt colour.
- No fire classification.
- No fixing method or recommended background.
