This guide is about

Wall Panel 01WJ - Metallic Dark Grey - Acoustic - 240cm - (1 pack / 4pcs)

View the product

A dark slatted wall is the easiest way to give a room a focal point and the easiest way to make a small room feel smaller. Wall Panel 01WJ - Metallic Dark Grey - Acoustic is four panels to a pack at 60 x 240 x 1.5cm each, listed as covering 5.76m². Deciding which wall it goes on matters more than the ordering, so start there.

Read the panel size as width, height and thickness, with 240cm matching the height in the product name. The order varies elsewhere in the catalogue, so confirm it before you cut.

Which wall, and how many packs

Four panels at 60cm cover 2.4m of width at full height. Dark panelling generally suits the wall you look at rather than the wall you sit against: behind a television, behind a bed head, or on a chimney breast with the alcoves left pale.

What a dark panel does to the woodwork

A dark wall makes white skirting, architrave and sockets read as bright lines across it. Three choices, all of which should be made before the panels arrive rather than after:

  • Panel down to the top of the skirting and accept the line. Simplest, and the line looks deliberate if it is level.
  • Remove the skirting, panel to the floor and refit or replace it. The panel is 1.5cm thick, so measure the back of your skirting: anything thicker than that sits proud of the slats unless you pack out behind it.
  • Paint the surrounding woodwork a deeper colour so the contrast stops competing with the slats.

Sockets on a slatted wall need planning too. A socket face plate landing half on a slat and half on a gap is the detail people regret.

The other dark finishes in the range

If you want the depth without the metallic sheen, Wall Panel 01C - Dark Grey - Acoustic is the plain version on the same slat figures. Wall Panel 01E - Black - Acoustic goes further again, which suits a media wall where the screen should disappear into the surround. For a lighter pairing on an adjoining wall, Wall Panel 01WH - Metallic Light Grey - Acoustic uses the same 2.5cm slat and 1.5cm gap, so the two meet cleanly at a corner.

What the listing does not state, and what to order with it

  • No sound absorption figure. The felt backing is described as absorbing sound, but no coefficient or rating is given, so ask before specifying it against an acoustic requirement.
  • How the metallic finish is applied, and whether a cut edge can be dressed.
  • The felt colour behind the slats.
  • No fire classification.
  • No fixing method or recommended background.

Measure the width at three heights and work from the smallest. The Wall Panel PVC Trim Acoustic named in the listing finishes exposed edges and is a separate line, as is Adhesive for Wall Panels, which comes 24 tubes to a box. Tell us the wall height when you order: if it is over 240cm we will point you at the taller panels rather than let you discover the shortfall on site.
