Netherton Upholstered Bed: the Boldest Headboard in the Range
This guide is about
Netherton Upholstered Bed
The Netherton has the boldest headboard of our upholstered frames: large panels set in a chevron above a grid of squares. Two geometries stacked in one board is more than the rest of the range attempts, and it is why the Netherton upholstered bed suits a plain room and would overwhelm a busy one.
Chevron above a grid
The chevron sits at the top, where the eye lands when you walk in, and the squares below give it something to stand on so the board does not float. Because the panels are large rather than fine, the pattern survives being seen from the doorway instead of dissolving into texture. The whole board is upholstered in the same cloth as the side rails and the foot end, so the bed is one piece.
A headboard this graphic asks for a quiet room around it. Plain walls, plain bedding, one accent colour, and let the bed be the pattern. Put it against a papered feature wall and the two will argue.
Why no storage can be the right answer
This is a frame rather than a divan. The mattress drops into an upholstered surround, the base is solid, and there is nothing underneath. That suits a bedroom with wardrobes already fitted, a room where you would rather keep the floor clear and visible, and anyone who has owned a storage bed and discovered that what goes in rarely comes out again.
If you want this geometry with the space under the mattress working, the same headboard is on the Netherton ottoman, which lifts. The frames with a solid base are collected under upholstered beds and the lifting ones under upholstered ottoman beds.
Five sizes
- Single 3FT: 109 cm wide by 212 cm long
- Small Double 4FT: 139 cm by 212 cm
- Double 4FT6: 155 cm by 212 cm
- King 5FT: 170 cm by 222 cm
- Super King 6FT: 200 cm by 222 cm
These are the dimensions of the finished bed at its widest point, which is a larger number than the mattress inside it. The step from small double to double adds 16 cm of width without changing the 212 cm length, so if your wall is the constraint rather than your floor, that is the comparison to make carefully. The king and super king are 10 cm longer at 222 cm, which is frequently what decides whether the door still clears the foot of the bed. There is a size guide on the product page with every size drawn to the same scale.
Twenty-five colourways
The Netherton is upholstered to order in any of 25 colourways, headboard, sides and base all in the one cloth. With two patterns in a single board, the fabric decides whether they read as one thing or two. A mid-tone with pile, Mink Plush Velvet or Silver Chenille, puts a soft highlight on each facet and lets the chevron and the squares separate cleanly. A very pale flat weave such as Almond Coniston flattens both, and the headboard becomes one textured panel, which is a legitimate choice if you want the shape without the drama. Black Plush Velvet does the opposite and makes the geometry the subject of the room.
Ordering and delivery
Mattresses are sold separately so the frame and the tension stay independent choices. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond it, which is worth factoring in if you are buying beds in Scotland from further afield. Size, fabric and headboard are all set on the Netherton product page, and if you want to see the chevron in a particular cloth before committing, ask us for a sample instead of judging it on a screen.
