MB White Marble Dining Table (1.5m)

View the product

The MB White Marble Dining Table (1.5m) is listed in one size, 150 x 90 x 77cm, and stands on a single pedestal rather than four legs. That one decision is the reason to measure properly before ordering, because a pedestal changes where chairs can go and what fits underneath.

What the listing states, and what it leaves open

The listing describes a white marble top with natural veining on a single pedestal base, and says 150cm seats four to six. The size is given as 150 x 90 x 77cm, which reads as 150cm long, 90cm deep and 77cm from the floor to the top surface. There are no options to pick on the product page: one size, as listed in the dining tables range.

Three figures are not given, and each of them matters. There is no top thickness, no weight, and nothing on how the top is built beneath its marble face. Natural veining also means the pattern is not repeatable, so the top that arrives will not match a photograph line for line. If any of that would change your mind, ask the shop before you order rather than judging it from an image.

The 77cm height is worth a note

Most of the dining tables here are listed at 75cm high. This one is 77cm, and those two centimetres go straight into the gap between your knees and the underside of the top. That is usually welcome, but it only helps if you know what sits under the surface. Measure from the floor to the top of your chair arms, then compare it with 77cm less the thickness of the top. Because the listing gives neither the top thickness nor the depth of any frame below it, that is the one measurement to ask for if your chairs have arms.

What 150 x 90cm honestly seats

A rectangular top is easy to work out: allow about 60cm of edge per place setting, and about 75cm if you want elbow room.

PlacesWhere they goEdge each
FourTwo on each 150cm side75cm
SixTwo each side, one at each 90cm end75cm on the sides, 90cm at the ends
EightThree each side, one at each end50cm on the sides

Four to six is the number the listing gives and the number that works every day. Eight is possible on paper and cramped in practice. The pedestal is the thing that makes six realistic, because with no leg at the corners the end seats are not fighting a table leg for knee space. Do check where the pedestal foot spreads to on delivery, since a wide foot is the usual reason a chair will not tuck fully under.

Measure the floor, not the table

  • Allow about 75cm out from each edge for a chair in use. Around a 150 x 90cm top that needs roughly 300 x 240cm of clear floor.
  • Allow about 100cm on any side someone has to walk along behind a seated diner. On both long sides that takes you to about 300 x 290cm, which is why one long side is usually pushed towards a wall.
  • Measure your doorways and any turn on the stairs as well. A 150cm top is a rigid single piece and will not flex around a tight landing.

What it sits with, and what else to consider

If you want the same 150cm footprint with the option of going longer later, the SG-Lewis Dining Table (1.5/1.8/2m) starts at 150 x 90cm and is offered up to 2m. For a round top in a squarer room, the SG-Chelsea Round Table (1.3m) is 130cm across on a cross pedestal. And if the oak-effect look suits the room better than a pale stone top, the Siena Dining Table (1.5/1.8m) shares the 150 x 90cm size with black metal legs. Chairs are sold separately, in dining chairs.

Before you order

Measure the clear floor, measure your chairs including the arms, and ask the shop for the top thickness and anything else the listing does not answer. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond. The photographs and full details are on the MB White Marble Dining Table (1.5m) page.
