The Mayfield ottoman takes the channelled headboard from the Mayfield frame and puts a lifting platform underneath it. Everything below the mattress becomes storage, and because the bed is built as an upholstered frame rather than a divan box, none of it shows. These are the questions people actually put to us about the Mayfield upholstered ottoman bed, answered from the listing rather than around it.

Can you tell it is an ottoman when it is closed?

No. The sides are upholstered and shaped in the same cloth as the headboard, so the bed reads as a frame and the storage is hidden entirely. That is the main thing separating this from the divan-box kind of ottoman, where the base is a plain fabric block with a visible lid line. If the look of the bed matters to you as much as the capacity, this is the shape to be comparing.

How much will it hold?

The mattress platform lifts on gas struts and opens the full area beneath it as one lined compartment, undivided. The listing does not give an internal depth and we are not going to invent one. If you are buying the bed around something specific you need it to take, tell us what and in which size, and we will measure it properly before you order rather than after it arrives.

What does the headboard look like?

Wide vertical channels running the full height of the board, carried along the side rail as well, upholstered in the same cloth as the base and the sides. Channelling is a quiet pattern close up and a strong one from the doorway, and it has no buttons in it to work loose. With all of the space under the mattress given to storage, the headboard is the part doing the decorating, and this one is up to it.

Which size, and what does it actually measure?

Five, measured across the finished bed at its widest point:

  • Single 3FT: 109 cm wide by 212 cm long
  • Small Double 4FT: 137 cm by 212 cm
  • Double 4FT6: 155 cm by 212 cm
  • King 5FT: 170 cm by 222 cm
  • Super King 6FT: 200 cm by 222 cm

The channelled surround makes this a wide bed for its mattress: a double finishes at 155 cm across, not the mattress width. There is a measurement upward too. The platform swings above the bed as it opens, so look at what is fixed to the wall at the head end, and ask us which way your size opens if the room has a slope or a window in the wrong place.

Which fabric?

Twenty-six colourways, with headboard, base and sides all finished in the one you pick. For channelling, pile is the variable that matters: a velvet such as Mocca Plush Velvet or Cream Plush Velvet puts a highlight on every flute, a chenille such as Charcoal Chenille softens them, and a flat weave such as Almond Coniston keeps the pattern restrained. Two cloths can look identical on a screen and nothing alike in a bedroom, so ask for samples.

And delivery?

Delivery on beds in Glasgow and anywhere inside 50 miles of our store is free, and £50 beyond that. Mattresses are sold separately so tension stays your choice. Size, fabric and headboard are configured on the Mayfield ottoman product page, and if you want to weigh a frame ottoman against the divan kind, the alternatives are under ottoman divan beds.
