Marbella PU Chair: 54cm wide, 84cm tall and wipeable
This guide is about
Marbella PU Chair (Black Legs)
At 84cm the Marbella PU Chair has one of the lower backs in the range, and that one figure decides more than it looks. It settles whether the chair stands above or below your table top, whether it blocks a low window sill or a radiator when pushed in, and how a row of them reads along a wall. The listing gives 54 x 60 x 84cm, a polyurethane covering, black legs and four finishes. Below is what those numbers do in a real room, and the questions the listing does not answer.
The figures, exactly as listed
| Listed as | Figure |
|---|---|
| Size available | 54 x 60 x 84cm |
| Covering | Polyurethane (PU) |
| Legs | Black |
| Finishes in the description | Grey, Light Grey, Camel, Black |
| Finishes in the page selector | Grey, Light Grey, Camel, Crushed Black |
| Code | AWS-CHAIR44 |
Read that as width, depth and overall height, which is the usual order and the only one that makes sense of 84cm. The listing does not label the figures, so confirm which is which with the shop if a centimetre matters to you. No seat height is given anywhere, and for a dining chair that is the measurement people actually sit on.
How many fit along your table
Work from the 54cm width and leave a few centimetres of air between chairs so nobody knocks elbows or jams a neighbour's chair when they stand up. Keep clear of the table legs at each corner as well.
| Length of table edge | Chairs at 54cm |
|---|---|
| 1.2m | 2, with very little between them |
| 1.6m | 2 comfortably |
| 1.8m | 3, snug |
| 2.4m | 4 |
The 60cm depth matters behind the table rather than at it. Allow roughly that depth again clear of the table edge so a chair can be pushed back and somebody can stand; allow about a metre if anyone needs to walk past an occupied seat. A 60cm depth is on the generous side for this category, so measure the gap between your table and the wall before you count places.
The covering, and the four finishes
The listing describes the Marbella as upholstered in polyurethane that resists stains and wear and suits busy rooms. That is the supplier's wording, and it is all the detail given: no cleaning code, no coating thickness, no fibre content for the backing. If you are buying for a table that takes daily family meals, ask for care instructions in writing before you order rather than assuming a wipe-clean surface.
Four finishes, and one name worth querying
Camel is the only warm finish of the four; grey and light grey are the safe pair against an oak or white top, and black reads as a line drawing round a pale table. Note the mismatch in the table above: the written description says Black while the finish selector says Crushed Black. A crushed finish is normally a different surface to a plain one, and the listing does not reconcile the two names. Ask which covering arrives before you choose it.
What the listing does not state
- Seat height, so knee clearance under your own table cannot be checked from the page.
- Seat width and seat depth separately from the overall footprint.
- Frame material and the filling under the covering.
- Any weight limit.
- Whether the chair arrives built or needs the legs fitting.
- Whether chairs are supplied singly or in pairs.
All six are quick questions for the shop, and worth asking in one go.
What it sits with
If you want the same coated covering on chrome rather than black, look at the London PU Chair (Chrome Legs). The Venice 01 PU Chair (Black Legs) keeps the black leg, and the Roma PU Chair (Ring Knocker/Chrome Legs) is the same sort of covering in a taller, detailed back if you want more presence. Compare the whole range on the Dining Chairs page, and the tops they sit under at Dining Tables. Delivery is free within 50 miles of our Glasgow store and £50 beyond.
Measure your table edge and the gap behind it, then choose a finish on the Marbella PU Chair (Black Legs) page.
